Losing Your Pit Bull or Having to Put Them to Sleep
By Jason Mann
Yesterday I received an email from a friend. I'll keep her name private for the purpose of this article, however, the reason I'm writing is because somewhere along the way a lot of us have had to make a tough choice or have experienced the loss of a dog before their time.
The tough choice I'm talking about is putting your bulldog down. My friend had to make this choice recently about one of her dogs. She was emailing me for some insight into her dogs behavior which resulted in her being put to sleep.
Having to put a bulldog down before their time is up is one of, if not the, hardest decisions we will ever have to make.
I wanted to write this to share what I shared with her.
What I shared with her may help you if you've faced the loss of your bulldog or had to put your dog to sleep before their time.
Celebrate Your bulldogs
While it may be hard to release the guilt, the feelings of loss, and the feeling that you could have done something or that you did something to cause the death of your bulldog, now is not a time of sadness.
Now is a time of celebration.
Our bulldogs are wonderful creatures that have helped us through many of our life's problems, gave us joy and shared a love that is unmatched by any person. No, bulldogs do not judge us like people do. They love us for who we are an in my opinion that makes them much better than people in the love department.
Celebrate their love and the joy they brought to your life and honor them.
Honor Your bulldogs
Keep them in your heart and your thoughts daily. Keep that love they shared with you at the forefront of your mind and feel it when you need it.
We use our bulldogs for so many purposes. They willingly work their bodies into the ground for us. Honor your bulldog by never forgetting them and never blaming yourself for something that had to be done.
It was out of your hands. It's not your fault. It's the way our world works sometimes.
The feelings that we feel at times of loss are not easy to get past. Some hold on to them for years before coming to terms with them. Some never do come to terms with them.
Now is the time to come to terms and let those feelings go. Now is the time to celebrate and honor them. Not years from now, not months, not even weeks, but right now.
Letting Go Will Free You and Allow Your bulldog(s) to Rest in Peace
By letting go of those feelings of guilt, loss and regret, you open up the door to healing and moving on
with your life.
You are not doing your bulldog an injustice by accepting their death. Quite the opposite,
you are honoring their memory by remembering them in a loving way.
