Pit Bulls: Insane Crazed Killers or How I’m So Selfish and Do not care about the people in society.
Today I received an email with the subject, “Shame.”
I thought it was a piece of junk mail but I opened it anyway. Glad I did too because it was a great email from a concerned mother of 4 about Pit Bulls and the recent attacks in her community.
Here is the email…
“This following article happened to our dear friends because of delusional, selfish, sick, shameful, insane people like you!!!!!
I am a mother of 4 little children. We must live forever in fear because of the fetishes of a few sick people like yourself.
You know these dogs are walking time bombs. Of course, some may never attack but some of them do!!!!!
Even if they are the same as every other breed and don’t have “trigger” problems, the reason we always hear about the insane maulings is because they attack so viciously. They are solid muscle and “take chunks” out of people when they get pissed. I’m pretty pissed for a very good reason. It’s a good thing we mothers don’t take chunks out of people whom we feel are threatening us and our’s.
Another sweet dear friend was attacked in our same town just days before the trio attacked. Out of nowhere she was bitten on the back of her leg by another of these insane creatures!!!!! She is only 12 and what a beautiful sweet girl now scarred for life! She walks around school with crutches. I wondered if she signed the cards going around the schools for the two newest victems. How horrible it must be for her to never feel safe in her town again.
I have two adorable, sweet, loving little dogs. But they are dogs!!!!!!!!! If I found out the breed was prone to go nuts and could tear people apart at a moments notice….I would put them down…I would face reality!!!
HOW CAN YOU DO THIS TO PEOPLE BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN SELFISHNESS!!!!
We don’t keep wild animals because they just can’t be trusted!!!!! Many could be kept their entire life with out turning on people but we just can’t take that chance…..Pit Bulls have that wild instinct to attack. That’s what they were bred to do and we can’t trust they always can keep in control of themselves.
This attack in Cary happened only a few days after Halloween. Can you imagine what would have happened if their insane brains would have triggered just those few days earlier?!!!
Cary if crawling with children!!! On Halloween their EVERYWHERE!!!
How can you sleep at night knowing that tomorrow you may be the owner having to live with the blood of mauled children on your hands for the rest of your days!!
Can you imagine being the Sword family. They are a sweet family who breed and raise pit bulls. All the children in the neighborhood have played with these dogs since they were born. The people in the neighborhood knew and liked these dogs! Can you imagine what images the Sword children have to live with the rest of their lives? Their dogs were shot and they had to listened to them whimpering as they died!
These dogs were in no way abused or trained to be mean! 2 of them were also “puppies”, under a year weighing 80 pounds of solid muscle already!!!!
Poor little Nick. What a sweet boy from a wonderful family!!! He has an older brother and sister who adore him. My kids think he’s great. This child will never be the same if he even lives!!
The whole family puts their efforts in church and other places that make the world a better place…don’t you think you could put your talents in a more sure and positive direction other than bringing creatures into the world that terrify MOST of us!!!!
We are a small but close knit town. Now in the schools their are grief counsels for many children who are having a hard time dealing with this.
People like you are promoting this INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this breed worth it…..NO BREED IS WORTH THAT!!!!!
I would not wish on any dog what was done to those children.

I am doing this strictly for myself because I am old enough to know that this falls on deaf ears. People like you who would take such a risk and ignore all the facts could care less about people like me and my children. You have very thick heads and very little sense and the rest of us pay for it. You care little about anything but your own little Circe of want..you are very very selfish.
At least when you look in your dogs eyes you have peace knowing they won’t one day be ripped to shreds by the fetish of crazy people like yourself. That’s something I will never be able to do about my children or my dogs. Your dogs LOVE to rip apart little dogs like mine…that’s what they were BRED to do!!!!

Funny, my dogs have never ripped anyones dogs apart. But apparently they love to do it.
Funny, 80 lbs puppies, yes, these are great Pit Bulls! Nope. Incorrect, badly bred, dogs.
I hate emails like these for several reasons.
First of all, tragic as it is, people were hurt. However, they never blame the people who allowed the attacks to happen!
She even said, “Can you imagine being the Sword family. They are a sweet family who breed and raise pit bulls. ”
Weren’t these the owners responsible for the attacks? Their actions are not considered, but they are called, sweet and they had to “suffer” because of their actions.
I could be wrong, but doesn’t that seem a little odd?
People blame dogs, animals, creatures under HUMAN care for attacks that HUMANS allow and yet no one blames the owner. Unless of course they are a scum-bag. But if you are “sweet” then you can get away with being stupid and irresponsible.
According to this mother of four that is.

Well, im not to sure what to say about that? Where i live in Canada, Pitbulls only make up %5 of the dog attacks in ontario! %5?! The dog most “prone” to bite is, and you wont belive it, is The labourdor retriever! And i thought those were “loving family dogs?” Before really anyone should start pointing fingers, they should really look up the statistics, and not judge one for the breed of dog they own! Its not fair to us honest Pitbull owners such as myself, who has raised my dog to be loving and is! Its not the dog that is bad, its bad owners! So again, brush up on your reading and i hope you will change your mind!
What I want to know is why didn’t the parents of this Nasty B&(*& use birth control BEFORE she was conceived? I have no tolerance
for ignorance, no tolerance for being lazy and she is both. I
hope she gets bit by a Chihuahua and loses an appendage.
Oh my…where do I begin? I say shame on you lady for being so ignorant. Sorry, but you are! I have a beautiful chocolate rednose pit bull, Godiva. She is a total lover, and is the sweetest dog I have ever owned, and even encountered.
We take our responsibility of owning a pit bull very, very seriously. She is exercised daily, very well socialized, and ever attends obedience classes, where she is the star pupil. There is no doubt in my mind that pit bulls are an aggressive breed, but ALL dogs are!
I had my face ripped off by a German Shepard when I was 4 years old. I had to be tied down and wasn’t administered anesthesia as I received 54 sutures. Whose fault was that? Mine, the dog’s or the owners who failed to keep the dog from roaming the neighborhood? I do agree there is a problem amongst the pit bull population, but it isn’t the dogs’ fault. They don’t need to banned, they need to be regulated!!!!! There needs to be laws about owning ANY dog. Pit bulls have become a fad, and every teeny bopper kid will tell you how “cool” they look or bulk them up to fight. These are the people the laws need to made for. Have you ever seen what mean people do to these dogs? And wouldn’t you be ashamed to be a happy loving pup, if every single person you saw backed away in fear. I know I would have a serious complex. Take a better look at the good in the breed, and you will even see pit bulls as a therapuetic breed…helping children and elders live happier lives!!!
Jason-I cannot believe the ignorance of this woman! It is clear as glass that her byb neighbors are not raising their dogs right! I wonder,too, if she realizes how vicious small dogs can be.
Working at a no kill Pit Bull friendly animal shelter gives me first hand experience to see the dogs that come in surrendered or in quarantine by animal control,because they have bitten someone.
I can honestly say that most bites and attacks were done by Hounds, Labs, and small dogs. Once in awhile, there will be a Pit Bull who comes in for biting someone, but not very often, and our shelter covers 22 towns.
As a matter of fact, a lot of the ACO’s have Pit Bulls of their own.
This woman needs to think clearly with her brain, and understand the true picture of why this tragic attack occured, and who is really responsible for it!
At our shelter right now, our “office” dog, the one who greets everyone who comes through the door, is a Pit Bull rescued from Louisiana. Her name is Dixie, and believe me, if she was not a trustworthy, and sweet dog, would we really be turning her loose to greet everyone who comes through the door at an animal shelter?Please!!! I am absolutely floored at that woman’s email. She has no clue what she is talking about! I live in a small, close-knit town too, and my dogs (one pit bull “Goldie”, one coonhound “Cookie” and one american bulldog “Leo”) are welcomed, praised and loved by everyone! WHY? My husband and I have taken the time to train and socialize our dogs, that’s why. With people and other dogs alike. One of my pit bull’s best friends in the neighborhood is an 8-year-old little boy. They roll around on the grass having a grand old time. Our yard too, she is not protecting her yard from him because she has been socialized with him. He walks down almost everyday to play with her, and if he doesn’t make it, she sits out there and waits for him, looking up and down the street for him. Her best ‘doggie’ friend is a 3-year-old little mini schnauzer, named Mya. They are buds! Honestly, this woman wasted a lot of her time typing out that email instead of maybe visiting the injured, or doing some of her own research. She sounds like a soccer mom, and they are mostly stuck up, stay at home moms, who have nothing better to do with their lives that attack people who are only trying to make things better. Yes we are trying to make things better for the pit bull, but it’s not only for the dog. It is for everyone who comes in to contact with the breed. We train and discipline our dogs so that if a little child is antagonizing the dog (I hate to bust your bubble Miss Mother of 4, but kids do antagonize dogs sometimes, which can cause a dog, regardless of breed, to try and defend itself), they will turn a cheek. Other dogs, regardless of breed, will not do that unless properly trained. These attacks should come down to the owners for not caring for and training their dogs properly. Pit bulls are not born knowing how to fight, or attack, or to bite. They are either taught to do this, or NOT taught that it is wrong. OK, so I have ranted and raved enough now, I am going to end my blog. I hope it made sense. I just typed away!! She just got me so irritated! I wish I knew where her town was so I could take my dogs for a stroll through the town and watch as everyone ran into their houses in “FEAR” of these ferocious animals. Ooops…I made them miss a soccer game because they were too scared to walk out of their houses. Ahhh, too bad.
This lady is very IGNORANT, she is blaming all pit bulls because….here is her quote “You know these dogs are walking time bombs. Of course, some may never attack but some of them do!!!!! I am saddened by this poor woman’s lack of knowledge and eagerness to blame. What makes me more upset is that she is spreading her uninformed attitude to her 4 children who will ultimately continue to spread this detrimental ignorance. I do not think that we have the whole story behind these pit bull attacks that she speaks of. Nor, do I believe that a dog just “snaps”. Poor breeding, poor ownership, and again, lack of responsibility and knowledge is what causes these attacks. All dogs can bite if, bred poorly, treated poorly or under poor leadership, from a yorkie to a mastiff, the breed really doesn’t matter. My only hope is that she comes back and reads all of the responses submitted and makes a commitment to educate herself and her children, but, based on people that I’ve met with similar attitudes…. the ignorance goes too deep and nothing positive will be accomplished and we will have to continue our fight to keep our loving and faithful companions.
wow! that woman is extremely ignorant and ill-informed, man oh man where do i even start. if she thinks its ok to just blame the dog and not hold the humans responsible than she is part of the problem, in fact she is more dangerous than any dog. her way of thinking is so one sided that i worry for her children and their safety. will she not take responsibility for her children acting in a responsible manner. will she just say “oh those kids they should know bette” even if they screwed up as young as the age of 3? dogs need guidance, restrictions, corrections, and love just as children do. any dog without these things is dangerous just as children are without these things in their life.
Good Lord! You think she would have at least done some research before ranting on like a maniac. She talk about the insanity we have, maybe she needs therapy. My 2 yr old female barely weighs 60 lobs, and she is on the large side of true pit bulls. What the hell were they crossing there dogs with mastiffs???
I just purchase a pitbull puppy and plan to raise it the correct
way and stay very informed on the breed, it seems the people are
very uneducated. I have 3 children and 3 stepchildren that this
dog will be raised with. I live in St. Louis and there is a big
Pitbull problem, people are not taking care of them and a lot of
dog fighting, therefore a lot of cities are banning the breed
and my city, Florissant, is in the process of trying to ban
pitbulls and Rotts. I agree it is the owners not the dogs, make
the owners more responsible!!! Don’t punish the Dogs or the
responsible owners and their families who love their dogs, we
will NOT get rid of our dog if they pass the law, we will move.
This woman needs to learn what she is talking about before she tries to speak for other mothers. I am a mother of 3 and have 2 grown Pitbulls and 8 puppies and would not choose another type of dog when it comes to loyalty. I trust my pits with any of my children and everyone of my sisters and my brother are pit owners and all have children.
If she wants to ban the bred because of a few bad apples then what does she suggest when it comes to the rapist, murderers, and child molestors in this world, they are a part of the human breed does she suggest banning us to.
I agree with you this lady either needs to get a life or maybe she is jealous and just needs to get a Pit, but then again it takes some smarts to raise one properly she might not be able to handle that.
I would just like to say it should not be the pit bulls that are banned it should be you and all of the other dog haters in the world. Most dog owners treat there dogs like people and keep them inside or in a fence. If you do not like your kids being around pit bulls them you should keep them inside or in a fence as well. My pit bull is 2 years old and loves everyone and other animals and I would hurt anyone that hurt my dog.

I really hate the fact that people blame the breed. How she says they are bred to be aggressive. Not all are! That is like saying a child growing up in an evironment where the parents are constant drug & alcohol abusers, fight violently & abuse their child will turn out to be just like the parents – no doubt. Should this child just be put down before he/she continues this cycle of abuse? Or if the child acts out in school & gets into a physical fight with another child & happens to draw blood, should he/she be put down or sent away for life? I just don’t understand the thinking behind some of the ignorance this woman has put forth. I am having a baby in 3 months & am soo sick of everyone telling me my dog is going to have to go or that it will kill my child. My Mercury is the biggest snuggle bug. Yes this will be a big adjustment for him, but as responsible owners we are ready for it & will not just put him down or give him away cause another pitbull somewhere in America bit a child. I dont believe they should be banned but like someone else stated, better regulated. Owners should have some sort of background assessment to deem if they are going to be responsible. Hell, if my town wanted too, I would be willing to bring him for a monthly inspection to prove his very very very good behavior.

I have to agree with Jason. The writer of the email is doing
what our media and government continue to do-regurgitate
ignorance about things they don’t understand and blame something
that cannot stand up for itself. Obviously, the dog “breeders”
were very irresponsible, as kind and loving as they may seem.
There are a bunch of really sweet uneducated people in this planer.
Unfortunately, there is more than on victim in this, the child who was bitten, but the dogs are also victims as well. Think about
it like this- if a parent let a very small child wander the street
and the child was run over because he ran into the road- we all
would think that the incident was a tragedy but you absolutely
would not blame the child, you would blame the parent for being
negligent. Same principle if you ask me. People just need to
get over themselves and get their heads out of their butts.

Unbelievable! Yet another moron who knows absolutely nothing about pit bulls and the people who love them, other than all the negative media hype. I am the proud owner of a rescued pit bull. She is over a year old and weighs 39lbs, which by the way, is an average weight for a female pit bull. She is a typical pit bull in every way. She’s intelligent, inquisitive, obedient but most importantly she wants to please every one in our house including my children. I have complete trust in her around my kids and anyone elses kids. She gets along perfectly with our 3 cats and our hamster. I know that sounds pretty odd since soccer mom is convinced that these dogs are bred to attack and rip people and smaller dogs/animals apart. But it just doesn’t happen with any breed of dog that has been properly socialized and who has been part of a loving home. Might I add that I was attacked by a German Shepard when I was 10 years old. I was minding my own business, walking down the road and the dog ran out of his yard and attacked me for no reason. When he was done he went back to his yard. But wait a minute, how is that possible since pit bulls are the only dogs that are bred to attack unprovoked? A German Shepard is a nice family dog, right? Get a clue, soccer mom, any dog has the ability to rip you apart. Here’s an idea, the next time you get your skirt ruffled over something, try doing a little bit of research on the subject before you go shooting off at the mouth. One last thought, I bet soccer mom remembers Petey from the Little Rascals, guess what? He was a pit bull and he never once bit or mauled any of the Little Rascals. I could go on all night since pit bulls possess so many amazing qualities but I have to go now, it’s time for our family’s nightly routine of play time with our precious pit bull, Tina.

absolutely incredible……i have no idea the exact % but i bet it is more likely to get killed by a automobile than a pitbull and you dont think we should ban automobiles do you? People like this are just set in their ways and will remain closed minded no matter what happens. I feel for this lady because its obvious she went through something difficult and it just sucks for people like us that love pitbulls that a pitbull was involved. I know my family was pretty skeptical about my dog when I first got him but have now grown to love him. They had never been around a pitbull and just heard the stories on TV. What can we all do to help change the image of our dogs? I heard a rumor that they may change the name of the breed to the New Yorker to help offset a lot of the negative press does anyone know if this is true?
Wow, How sorry do I feel for the children living with, and being raised by, something like that. Ignorance is bliss isnt it lady. Well I hope you never get another animal and never have any more kids. The last thing that the world needs is more people like you raising children and filling their minds with uneducated nonsense. Well, my question is, why are these dogs allowed to run lose? Yes, i own a pitbull. And yes, she is always on a leash. I don’t care if your dog is 5lbs. or 100lbs. This is my biggest pet peeve of all. I hear so many times, “well,ny dog never runs away. He is trained not to.” That’s crap. I feel like I should be able to walk my dog without some other dog running up to her with no owner around. Yes, it’s tragic what happens to these people. But, the owners need to be more careful. I live near Chicago and there was just an attack on some little kids. Three pitbulls were shot to deal as they attacked some little kids soliciting for a school project. The door was not shut properly, and the dogs, protecting the house, pushed the door open and attacked. Well, I have a friend who has 2 Jack Russells that would’ve done the same thing. It’s “their” house and they are going to protect it. My dog loves other dogs, people and children. But she is constantly supervised as well as any other breed should. I was chased down by a black lab once. No leash, no collar, no owner in site. There needs to be stricter laws on leashes and ownership. Not laws to ban breeds. I’m sure there are many dog attacks in a week, but the only ones who get news time are the Pits. But, nobody ever says, “why wasn’t that dog on a leash?” Nope, it’s the dogs fault. Blah. Double check your doors if you have to. I do. Everytime. I love my dog and I think people should do the research if they are going to bad mouth a certain breed. Most of these people know nothing about Pitbulls. They just know what they see on the news. Know your facts, then you can have an opinion.
Mother of 4 small children, YOU need to educate yourself, It’s people like YOU that are selfish, ignorant and should have shame in such words they speak. We are not the only living, to hold a place in this world. What gives any human the right to ban any animal and stop their right to exsistance, simply to satisfy their own selfish needs? If that be the case then maybe society should start by murdering all known murderers, and castrating all known rapists and child molesters, well really, wouldn’t the world be a better place without them? If any living creatures should be banned, then perhaps we should start with looking at ourselves(the human race!)
I think that is the funniest, yet most ignorant email about pit bulls I have ever read. That woman is insane!!!! But she is a perfect example of how uneducated some people can be in our society. People must understand that owners must watch their pit bulls and be aware of everything around them. That womwan is sooooo dumb she should be embarrassed for writing something so stupid. Thank you “mother of 4″ for proving once agian what ignorance is. What a shame. It is funny how so many good owners can rally together yet one byb can ruin it for all of us. I grew up with a pit bull, I own 3 now. I am a reg. vet. tech. or animal health tech, (depending on where you are at). My two girls are working on their A.K.C. good citizen tests. My dogs are loved by many different people (including the neighbor kids) and change opinions on a daily basis. I was very touched the other day when I was visiting with the 8 year old neighbor boy. I don’t live in the best nighborhood and pits are abused here on a regular basis. A group of young men were walking down the street with an unneuterd male. He had a huge chain arounf his neck with a 5 lb wieght locked to it. He was being walked by a rope. I shook my head and muttered that I felt bad for that dog. The little boy asked “why? Because those people are mean to him huh?” I told him that not all dogs are as lucky as mine and that some are treated unfairle (to say the least!) Well, that little boy went on to tell me that he knows mean people make mean dogs and that he felt sorry for that dog too. He told me that he loves my dogs and that he knew that they were good dogs because they were loved. Then he told me that he always tells his mom and grand-ma, who are afriad of pit bulls, that they are not right and that bad people make bad dogs but they don’t listen so they miss out on pit bull kisses!. If only more adults were so open minded like him. One of my dogs, Lola, is very big because she is part mastif. It is so sad to see people cross the street when they see her coming. She loves people and has no idea why so many are scared of her. I am always so sorry to hear of a dog bite or attack. The worst I have ever seen was from a cocker spaniel puppy. He bite a small girl in the face causing her eye to pop out of socket. I have been biten by a 10 month old golden ret., an adult doxie, and an adult dobie. The general public needs to educate themselves on bite prevention and dog behavior in general. Laws need to be passed to stop B.Y.B.s and tougher punishments are needed for dog fighters. I am always sadden to see the way pit bulls and dog fighting a glorified by the scumiest of scum. Banning breeds will not stop bites, it will only change the breed biting. I agree something has to be done but punishing good people and their dogs is not the answer. The question should be why is a breed that has been around for so long suddenly “a ticking time bomb”? This is the same breed “Petey” was from the little rascals. Is it that hard to place blame on the owners? Last time I checked my pets were dogs, not scapegoats.

educating idiots like you. Nowhere in her letter does she blame
the “sweet” people who owned these dogs. There are no bad dogs
- only bad owners. This breed is not for everyone. Lazy people
should not have them. I have 2 wonderful dogs that I am very involved with. They are well socilized, clicker trained, and
altered. They have never so much as scratched anyone, however
the rat terrier next door to me has bit several children. So
much for the “time bomb”. I bet I do more in a week with my

I’m a pitbull lovers from Jakarta,Indonesia.Honestly,there’s a lot people who hate Pitbulls in my country,because of Pitbull’s bad image.I think these people got the wrong informations from media. Few months ago,there’s a news that a pitbull attacked an old woman in Jakarta.But,when they shown the dog’s pictures,I’m very sure it’s not pitbull.It’s crossbred of pitbull&Bull Mastiff.I can’t understand why they said it’s a pitbull.It’s so sad,why do some people think pitbulls are MONSTERS???I have 8 pitbulls&I’ve interested in pitbulls since’92.From what I learned about this breed,”Pitbulls are very nice dogs,with a good temperament.They are very familiar with people&kids,even with people they never met before.Surely,Pitbulls are NOT MONSTERS!!”
It’s funny how ignorant people can be. I used to think the same thing about this breed until I research it myself. Now I am a proud pit bull owner. The media has a funny way of portraying these poor animals as dangerous animals and it’s pretty sad.
It’s obvious this lady has not done her research and is only basing her facts on what she sees on tv or reads in the papers.
I really hope that these stories just make the responsible people continue to be responsible and makes the not so responsible people think a little more on what to do so that your dogs (no matter what type they are) do not have a chance to become a headline or subject of bad media. its common sense, and we as humans have to be the ones with the sense, dont put the weight of the responsibility on any dog for an attack. some dogs are more protective than others, and no dog should be left unsupervised with children and you should never leave a room unsecured with large dogs in it. lock the front door when leaving the room, you never know who might come to it and open it when you arent around. and never leave a dog in an outdoor area unsupervised unless its a completely secure dog run. these are common sense things people must do to protect their dogs and their neighbors.

I have a 5 month old APBT, and I was a smart, responsible, owner. I SOCIALIZED my pup, I’ve never aggressively beaten my pup, or encouraged/fueled any aggressive motion that he has made. My APBT Chewy is very gentle, compassionate, loyal, and obedient. Only because as an owner I was RESPONSIBLE enough to seek out experts like Jason Mann that have a great knowledge of this breed and I learned to raise a pit bull pup the RIGHT WAY. This lady doesn’t even respect the hard work that Jason puts into this site and the amount of FACTUAL data that he reveals to APBT owners everywhere. This lady is a lunatic and I guess she would really be happy if we killed every single human being on this planet, because we don’t know everyone’s motives. Who knows anyone’s motives you twit! This women is a dumb waste of life. These dogs are not instinctually little dog eaters. My pit bull/ Presa Canario Bryndel and my pit bull Darma live with 2 cats and have many play dates with people, big dogs and little dogs. I am 21 and live in a big house with 4 other people in their earlie 20′s so you can imagine there are a lot of parties and many people in and out of the house and never once have they attacked any one. Darma was abused and neglected when i got her and still she sheds harm on no one. Bryndel is 83 pounds of solid muscle and has been attacked by a shiht-Zu, a beagle mix and a 75 puound dog. He never even so much has fought back with even a paw let alone a tooth. The worst was 12 holes in his head and stiches put in his nose to hold it on and the only thing on the other dog was the blood from Bryndel’s nose. In my profession (I work for a very well respected animal hospital) I have never been bitten by a Pitt but have had stitches and other hospital trips that were the result of a Poodle, a Chiauhua, a Besenji, and numerous others including a the Beloved Labrador Retriever. So now that you, the dumb close mided soccer mom, know that it is the little ones that are the most violent I still doubt you will be on the phone wtih your Vet making an apppointment to put your to little ankel bitters to sleep. And you ask us how we sleep at night, well its that if I saw you ranting and trying to hurt my breed I know that it would not be Bryndel or Darma spilleng your blood from your jugular instead it would be me and my passion four all living things. You were not givin the right to play God but if I was its ignorant people like you that would be gassed in shelters. In conclusion you stuped bitch shut your mouth and get educated.

Mother of 4 is all upset because she wants all of us to feel the same way that she does. The problem is that there will always be opposing sides to the issue of Pitbulls and their behavior. Somehow we have to meet in the middle. I am a proud owner of a 9 month old male Pitbull named Bosco. I also have a miniature pinscher and 3 cats. Everyone gets along great. I dont have to worry about anyone attacking the other, because I have socialized my pets and taken the time to care for them the way any animal should be. I also work at an animal hospital and see aggresive animals all the time. I encounter bites, attacks and just pure aggresion towards anyone. I must say that if this soccer mom broke out of her shell of a world that she obviously lives in she would learn that banning any breed is not the answer. Irresponsible, ignorant people spawn ignorant and irresponsible animals. If a black man had robbed her, would she want to ban all black men because they may or may not rob her. Racism is wrong for people, so why is it ok for dogs? Its not. I am not going to sit here and name all the other kind of dogs that I know to have attacked people or other animals, because the fact is that any and I mean ANY animal can attack. My little miniature pinscher is more likely to bite, than my Pitbull. We will always have to fight for our beloved friends the Pitbull, and I am ready to fight for the rest of my life. Bosco is my best friend and I would not be the same person without him. I think that Mother of 4 needs to read her own words and realize that she contradicts herself. She states that the neighborhood kids have played with these dogs all of their lives. Well, if the dogs were so evil, then they should not have played with them at all. Only when something unfortunate happens are these animals considered evil. Where were the owners when the attacks happened? Where were the dogs for that matter? Why werent they leashed or fenced in? First of all, the “insane creatures” that Ms. Mother of 4 is speaking of could not be American Pit Bull Terriers — APBTs do not get that big that young — learn your breed!! Secondly, what she says sounds a lot to me like prejudice (as well as a complete lack of knowledge of the APBT). You CANNOT judge an entire breed by the acts of one representative — just as you cannot judge a race by one of its representatives! Some of the most “insane” and tempramental dogs that I have come in contact with have been those “sweet little dogs” that she prefers. It is ignorance like this that we as responsible owners have to encounter daily in our mission to educate people on this wonderful breed of animal. I am the proud parent of 2 female APBTs, one Dachsund, one Giant Alaskan Malamute and up until a few weeks ago, a Labrador Retriever. They all have their good and bad points, it is up to us, their humans, to train and encourage the good points and discourage the bad. Any breed can become “insane creatures” if not trained properly or put in a bad situation. Any human can be an “insane creature” as well, should we ban all human s that we don’t understand or don’t fit in with our idea of the proper person, or in the APBT’s case, the proper dog? I am also a mother of two beautiful children that I would NEVER consider putting in harms way. If I had any doubt that ANY of my dogs would harm them, I would not have them. I read a few articles about the attacks in Cary and I find it
odd that someone would breed and raise any kind of dogs without
a fenced backyard. Also strange for a pit bull to be under a
year old and weigh a whopping 80 lbs. I would question their
breeding practices. I’m not a breeder don’t intend to ever be
a breeder but I would question anyone breeding such large pits.

You know I’ve recently came to adore pit bulls. Like that Lady I had this image of them, then My husband had a pit bull when we got together, and I fell in love with her. She was the most sweetest thing you would ever lay eyes on. God bless her doggy soul. Then bout 2 months ago, we got another pit bull, he’s just a big ole puppy love him to death.And we have 3 children together around our pit bull. Our kids play with him and he plays back. Never even shows any kind of ferousioness. (sorry if it’s misspelled)Before that woman goes on and talking crap about pit bulls, she needs to look at the facts, like you said, the owners have no blame, when they sould. Well I think so atleast. Dogs will be dogs no matter what breed they are. Do they say anything about those dead gum ankle bitters chihuahas? No they don’t. I just wanted to say that I am a proud owner of an American Pitbull terrier and I also have a 3yr old daughter that plays with him. If I was at all concerned with my dog being vicious I wouldn’t allow him to be around my daughter. When I take my dog to the dog park and the other dogs attack him he submissively rolls on his back as if to surrender. I guess that makes him very vicious…It is all how they are raised.

I think Jan, in an earlier comment, hit the nail on the head with the analogy about a child wandering the street. My mother’s chihuahua has bitten everyone in my family more than once and guests as well. That is a vicious dog. But, I don’t think the entire breed should suffer for one “bad apple”. Lady, you need to despartely be around some loving American Pit Bull Terriers to open your eyes. Then, your next letter will be telling us it’s the best breed ever!
Oh I forgot to mention earlier there is no such thing as an 80 pound Pit Bull especially under a year old let alone full grown. This dog may have been a Presa Canario wich is a dog that was originally breed by crossing a now extinct Bardino Majero with an English Mastiff. These dogs range between a 80 to 106 lbs although i have seen some larger and a pound or two smaller. My dog is part Pit Bull & part Presa Canario weighing 83 lbs and he has just turned a year old. So these dogs were not Pitt Bulls and these “breeders” had no f-ing idea what they were doing. Pit Bulls and or Presa Canarios are not violent by breed, nature, or instinct. It’s how you train a dog and treat them. Much like this pshyco women her mother should not have breed or had she been aware of what an ignorant human being she had brought into this world she might have considered birth control, getting herself “spayed” or possibly something more rash. So get a damn education or do some research in reality instead of on the computer and see that it isnt the dogs that are sick but the people who raise them to be aggresive. If they ever do out law all these large breeds the dog fighting rings will just start going to another breed till before you know it theyll be fighting squirells in their back yards for their next fix. I think most parents with small children are understandably concerned when
pit bull terriers are in close proximity. My wife and I recently rescued
a pit bull terrier mix in very bad shape off the street. During the
process of nursing her back to health we listened to the concerns of our
neighbors, but we also did a great deal of research. We have been able to
socialize Blanca with our Chow and our German Shepherd without too many
problems. Please note, there were some issues. It took about 2 months of
careful supervision, but they were socialized. As more of the neighbors
came to know Blanca they were surprised at how sweet she was. However,
the point I am coming to is this: Ultimately the owners must
be responsible when raising this breed. The “Mother of 4″ has obviously
done very little research and is responding emotionally. The owners of
the three animals involved with the attack must be accountable for not
properly containing them. Just my perspective and I don’t expect everyone
to agree. The post is very interesting.
I used to own a Cocker Spaniel. Now she was visous. She was afraid of children so at any given time, she would attack them. But walking down the street, no one said anything or do anything because she was your typical “cute” dog. One day, a man walking his dog came to closs and she actually bit his finger almost completely off! Now my sister owns a Pitt Bull that she got when she was a puppy. She couldn’t hurt a thing!! When we walk down the street, people move or tell us to put a muzzle on her! I’d like to put a muzzle on those people. How dare you, with your ignorant speculations and uneducated assuptions tell anyone they can’t own a Pitt Bull or that the dog is a “time bomb”. BUSH IS A TIME BOMB, attacking at free will and no one has put him to sleep!! Most people breed their pitt bulls as guard dogs, chaining them, outside, to a tree even in the coldest, wetest weather. Others beat there dogs so they grow up violent, ready to attack or be attacked. Or some breed their dogs to fight other dogs!!! I heard once that Pit Bulls were the # 1 most agressive dogs in the world. I would say humans are. Dogs are not stupid but I think humans are worse!! We are to easy to point fingures at the dog when it is mostly the humans fault. I GUESS ITS EASIER TO JUST KILL EM ALL OFF UNTILL THE NEXT THING COMES ALONG!! I’ve spent the past 6 years with 9 pits. They have seen their
share of strangers, children and elderly people. They have never
even looked at a person funny let alone turned aggressive.
Everyone in our circle of friends has at least two of them and
my dad has even created a line of dog food designed for their
benefit :)

Ignorance and studity, a living, breeding thing that keeps on feeding by being passed on to young minds. This woman is a moron and some people in the society are double-standard. This might be a bit off the subject, however, people want to spare the
lives of cold-bloodied killers and murderers, rapists, child-molesters, and
concerned about the the health and safety of terrorists; but they are willing to destroy and kill dogs that were wrongly-bred and trained? Yes, I agree that dogs should not be running around biting – but that falls in the hands of their owners not the dog or its breed.
This letter is from a scared and severly misinformed mother. In her shoes I wouldn’t blame her for being that way. What she and her kids needs is a trip to my house. Every 50 feet on the perimeter of my property, there are No Trespassing and Beware of Dogs signs. I currently have 8 dogs, including 1 AKC American black lab, 1 hound, 2 purebred chihuahuas, 2 mixes that were abandoned in the road, and my favorites, 2 American pit bull terriers. I am 35, married with one 9 year old boy, a 22 year old stepdaughter with a 3 year old son, 3 cats, and 0 mice! I live in the country with plenty of children who live close by. I am in law enforcement. My family and I excercise self defense by carrying firearms and practicing consistently with them. I do not lock up any of my guns, however they are put up out of reach when small or visiting children are around. My son knows more about how to handle firearms than half the people who purchase them. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, don’t it ma’am. Well here’s the facts. None of my firearms have ever been discharged accidentally, because firearms do exactly what the handler tells it to do. Likewise, of all my dogs, everyone who sees my lab says they would trust my pits over him any day. Thi dog, cosidered to be the #1 family dog by the media, is the same one who instinctively protecting his owner’s territory (my truck) growled at the good friend who raises AKC registered labs and give him to us when she stuck her hand in through the window to pet him, who also growled at my neighbor who is over all the time when he went to feed him while my family and I were on vacation. The other incident was when a good friend was playfully slapping my wife on the arm and one of the chihuahuas that my wife has had longer than me decided that looked wrong. One of my pits when he found a weak link in my perimeter and who loves to explore, promptly went to one of my neighbor’s house because he heard their chidren playing and could not resist being left out. He stayed there all afternoon and only barked at vehicles that drove up, letting the kids’ father know someone had entered. The other pit is named Baby because the name fits, however I would hate to see what she is capable of if an enemy was to try to harm my family. Dogs are just like all my firearms(notice I haven’t refered to them as weapons and hope I never have to) They do exactly what we tell them to, and when handled properly, they always will. Even pickup trucks, the most popular vehicles in the world, flash across your mind as big, mean, uncontrollable beasts when one slams into you after you have pulled in front of it. Ma’am, next time you write an example to strenghthen your arguement, please include all of the facts if you even know them, as police work will teach you one thing: there’s always more than meets the eye.
I hate listening to people who are as hyped as the media. I recently had my pit bull terrior to the vet for a check up. When the vet came in the room he asked me if the dog was ok with strangers. I told the vet all he needed was a towel to dry himself off from the dogs tounge lashings. The vet then said he feels sorry for this breed and that it is an unfair battle for the dog. The vet was part of a questionaire for pitt bulls and he had nothing but good to say about the breed as did many other vets and the media and government completly ignored them. My neighbours are a little afraid of him and would not let there three daughters near our yard. Over the past summer we went from fear to there children actually comming into our home and playing with our five year old son and his PET DOG. Mind you we have talked with the parents and children on how to inter act with the dog. When someone says how can you own such an animal my response is I think people are more dangerous than the dogs.

I just wanted to comment and say that I, myself, was bitten in the face when I was five by a dog I had grown up with down the street and guess what, ….it was the all American family pet, a Golden Retriever. Why don’t people see that it’s not the damn breed??!! My heart truely tightens I hear these stories. To anyone who read this, please educate people about pits. We are all they have.
Every day people in your country are being killed and maimed by these dogs, bad owners/breeding/treatment/ whatever. Who cares why, the fact is people/children are being hurt and lots worse. HOW anyone in their right mind could contribute to this problem by breeding these dogs is beyond me. Its not always the ones that are mistreated that turn mean. Because they are NOT any more dangerous than any other breed. They are DOGS. Dogs have TEETH. Dogs have their own lives, PEOPLE make mistakes, and ALLOW dogs to bite.
Sorry, but every single attack is caused by a PERSON who is responsible. Dogs do not “just snap.” They show signs for days, months, and even years. These signs go unnoticed by the ignorant owner thinking they know it all and well, the news reports the results.
FACT: You can never trust ANY dog not to bite if you do not KNOW the dog inside and out. A good owner, KNOWS their dog

this lady is just plain stupid i have a 1 year old pit and i got her when she was 6 weeks old…at the time my son was about 17 months old…my pit shelby has never tryed to bite or snap at him and he has pulled her fur,tail,ears and even tryed to ride her..she is protective of us but she will let off her warning growl and that is it..people come over all the time and she jumps right in there lap ..she is the most lovable dog ever so what if you have 4 kids what does that have to do with anything??? instead of you writing things down on the internet you need to do some research and if pitts where so bad how come there are so many of them as show dogs and why is it that 99% of vets will tell you that pitts are great family dogs..just like any dog if they are picked on or messed with in a bad way then they will get pissed and if it is done to much would you snap too….there is more to this story then what you are saying so you need to shut up get a life and learn something about the most magical and beautiful breed of dog in the world and the reason you have two little dogs because your not smart enough to a owner of a pit or a large breed dog get some education
I am a proud owner of an eleven months old male red nose pitbull and he is as sweet as candy. People or should I say “society” can not go around claiming or labeling every pitbull as “brutal killers.” Dogs are just like any animal (including human beings), every walk of life has the good tempered well behave group and the mean brutal vicious group. Humans (black, white, any race) has have a killer in their ethnic group, but you do not hear us screaming “all blacks are killers, or all whites are killers etc…” Yes there has been a lot of mishaps with pitbulls, but what about Dobermans, German Shepards, Rottsweilers?
People need to stop worrying about the simple things in life and worry more about the bigger issues. Understandable losing a life is hard to deal with for anyone but let’s take a little more energy from getting pitbulls banned and take that energy and put it toward making our communities a better place to live, job markets for less fortunate people.
I was once as afraid of pitbulls as this mother was because of my own ignorance. Then my son brought an adorable puppy home who absolutly captured my heart. Zina was the most loving and sweet dog I have ever seen. She rarely even barked at other dogs and people. she loved meeting people. But I have a 7 pound male poodle who is a terror. IIf he had the size of a pit he’d be dangerous. Sadly Zina passed away this summer and I still miss her terribly. I got a new puppy, Zoey and so far she’s a sweetheart. She’s a little more hyper but she’s still a pup, so she’ll be great after a bit more training. Before people judge the entire breed they need to really do a bit more research. Dogs who are properly trained and cared for no matter the breed are for the most part not dangerous. It’s any dog thats not trained or has been mistreated who will attack.
I own 2 incredibly sweet pits. They attack me alright-with tons of slobber from puppy kisses. My dogs are great with people of all ages and my baby Keila rolls over on her back when meeting another dog. Oh yeah she is a vicious killer!! Most people in my town love my dogs, but there are, of course, some from the ignorant mindset that think they are harmful. I try my hardest to convince them otherwise, but it is useless arguing with people who rely on others to form their opinions for them. I find it incredibly shocking that people are trying to ban a breed that some can’t even identify. It is sad that people go blindly with an issue because a news program says it is a good idea. I use to think humans were capable of individual thought, but this woman proves once again that I am obviously wrong in my too-high opinion of my own race.

I would just like to agree with Jason, Pit Bulls are the best dogs in the world and completly misunderstood! They are so sweet and playful and smart I think they are probably closest to a human as a dog can get! Its a shame that all these stupid ignorant people are trying to band a breed they have never even owned or dont know anything about them. I have never been bite my any of my 3 pits and I use to put my face down in My black ones (chino) bowel of food and pretend to eat it and he would just sit there and wait or paw at me playfully, My pittbull now has a best friend named Merlin and he is our 3 month old cat believe it or not!!! they sleep together lick eachother and play Does this sound like a mean dog???The only one time I have ever been bitten in my life was by an 8 yeaar old poodle (those are the dogs that should be banned in fact lets ban all little dogs that like to bite because I bet if people reported being bitten by the little monsters there would be alot more cases then pitbull incidents!! Pit bulls are normally bred to fight but that is not there only quality. They are very intelligent dogs and they are very loving. Yes it is not a good idea to leave pit bulls with other breeds but that doesn’t go for all of them. The owner has a lot to do with how the animal turns out. i think that its not the dogs fault it is the owners fault do not hate something or someone if you do not know whats been going on with them you can’t just put a tag on someone or something and call it bad or good when you don’t know anything about it i have two pitbulls and they are the nicest dogs ever but if you fuck with them to a certain extent and really piss them off then you are antagonising them just to get them to bite you just lay off and shut the fuck up about the dogs. Fuck go strait to the fucking owner and deal with it.

Well i have two pit bull’s and i have never had any promblems out of them!The only problem i have had is people that fear the breed making coments!All i can really say is maybe they need to watch petey on THE LITTLE RASCALS just a bit closer!

Well every time i hear somone like the mother of 4 ranting and raving bout nothing it strike a nerve man! I own an american pitt bull terrier and he is the most love able dog and my kids just love him to death, my parent to where not sure bout him when i gor him but now they to! are standing up for the breed that everyone is quick to judge and ban.The people that live above me have a fox terrier that is unsocalized and is very mean it was attacked by a border collie cause it bit at the dog first,hmmm wounder what you would do mother of 4 if you bit at some one well what are you doing right now.I to own a ferret and my pitty plays with ferret and even run away when the ferret bit his ear, man the ignorance of people jus drive me to the point of wanting to find out where these people live and talk my dog and kids for walk threw there neck of the woods and show them that not every pitt bull is mean it is all in the way you raise the dog and the enviroment they live in i know this for a fact thast where i live there is people that like to bulk there dog up on steriods to make them bigger and meaner thenb they snap and attack that is bull shit these people should be shot well m done going off for now Thanx much Dave from Canada

im also a mother of 4 well 4 older children.. i have a rott 11years old and two pits 2 years old one followed my son home so we took him to the vet and was told he was abused and malnutrition(spelling)so the vet told us he was a red nose pit. so we decided to keep him cause he is so loveable has to always lick you it’s so funny.anyway my oldest son’s ex girlfriend pit had puppies and i was promised 1 not even thinking of this when we decided to keep the one that followed my son home.
well to make a very long story short the puppie dont get along with the rott or the other pit the all were like best friends and then all of the sudden 1 day the puppie went after the other pit now we have to keep the puppy seperated from the other 2..
any advice would be great….thanks
