Your Pit Bull is Dangerous and Other Comments that Boil my Blood
June 19th, 2006
As an author, advocate, dog trainer, and Pit Bull fancier I get mountains of email concerning the breed. From how to start a dog on a good diet, to how to train a 6 month old puppy to sit and everything in between.
I also receive comments about the breed and my stance about breed bans. A lot of them.
It’s not unusual for me to receive 5 or 10 emails telling me I’m a nut case or my dogs are dangerous and I’m too stupid to realize it and that when they kill someone I’ll suddenly realize how dangerous my dogs are.
Normally I shuck these emails to the trash bin and go on about my day but from time to time I do send a reply to the sender. Once again, they come back telling me how stupid I am and my dogs are born killers and will without a doubt hurt someone.
I also receive emails from people around the world who share their lives with Pit Bulls that receive similar emails or meet people while out in public that have similar comments.
To every single person who has emailed me such a comment, you might do well if you look in the mirror and try to understand that (A) you have no expertise in the area and (B) you are making comments based on absolutely nothing.
When people say I’m stupid because they know my dogs will attack the first thing that crosses my mind is, “yes, and you know me and my dogs so well. Of course you are in a position to tell me what my dogs will do.”
How ridiculous is that? Hey, your Cocker Spaniel will bite someone, I know it, they are a Cocker Spaniel and I heard from my friend’s friend, who has an aunt that they bite more than any other dog in the world!
Pit Bull attacks make the news because they are sensational. For me? They are tired and old and there are bigger things to worry about than some idiot who let their dog hurt someone.
Yes, I love the Pit Bull and I love the American Pit Bull Terrier breed. Yes I am biased to an extent. But I never use facts that I can not back up 110% that have been proven to be true by an unbiased source.
I want to make it clear, right here, right now that there is only one dog in the world that is a Pit Bull. That dog is the only dog in the world with the words, Pit Bull in it’s registered name and that dog is the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Every other dog on earth that is referred to as a “Pit Bull” is, in fact, not a Pit Bull but a Pit bull type dog and to define them as a Pit Bull is making the issue even more confusing.
Breeds that are called Pit Bulls that are different breeds altogether…
American Bulldogs, American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Terriers, Boxers, Dogo Argentino, Dogue De Bordeaux’s, Cane Corso, Dogo Canario, Presa Canario, and mixes of any of these dogs.
Think about that for a second…
Do you even know what a Pit Bull is? Have you ever seen a purebred Pit Bull? Odds are the majority of the general public has never seen a real American Pit Bull Terrier.
Yet, they claim my dogs are dangerous and will kill the first person they come into contact with or they will “Snap” one day and kill every one in their sleep.
Get Real!
If you are for breed bans, let’s look at it from a different point of view. Once you allow the government to start making wide bans on the breeds of dogs a person is allowed to own what do you think will happen next? Oh yes, the animal rights groups will move to have more breeds banned, then more, then the cat’s will start to get banned, then companion animals altogether will be banned. Think I’m crazy? Support the bans and you’ll see this come true.
Let’s look at it from yet another aspect.
Did you know that in Denver and other places were complete bans are enforced that people who use the breed as a service dog have their dogs taken?
That means the blind man who has relied on his companion for years to assist him in living his life gets his dog snatched.
The deaf 10 year old with the service dog that happens to be a Pit Bull gets her dog taken too.
Think I’m crazy? How about Taco, the dog that helps a lady in Canada who lost her leg, she is still fighting to keep him!
How many people’s lives have to be ruined before the madness stops? How many families have to lose their companions based on nothing else other than breed or looking like a certain breed before the rest of the dog owners in our society wake up and stop pointing fingers at the dogs?
I have said it dozens of times. People are the problem. We do not need new laws. We have hundreds of laws that deal with these issues already established. However, they are not enforced and they are not taken seriously. Why is it that you can see 10 people walking their dogs in the park off-leash when nearly every city in America has a leash law?
Why is it that you can see people driving down the road with a dog hanging out the drivers side window and the Police pass them without giving them a ticket?
Why are the current laws not enforced when violations happen right in front people that should be enforcing them?
Oh, wait, it’s not important that the little foo-foo dog is hanging out the drivers side window obstructing the old 90 year old ladies view.
It’s not important that the 15 small dogs running around the park nipping all the kids are out there because I mean, how much damage could they do?
It’s not important when you see people breaking these laws because you know, they have better things to do like real Police work.
Why do the people who whine and moan and complain about how dangerous Pit Bulls are do nothing when they see someone breaking these laws with another breed of dog?
It’s not about making new laws to fix the problem. It’s about enforcing those laws on the books to the letter and actually asking dog owners to be responsible for everything their dogs do.
Wouldn’t that be interesting if that happened?
Case by case basis. Stop the stupidity and stop breed bans.
I want to end with a comment that boils my blood to know end.
You are full of crap, these dogs are vicious. You know it and I know it, why don’t you just come clean and tell the truth.
This comment is basically saying, “I don’t like the way you see things, come to see things my way or you are lying.”
I wouldn’t lie. For one reason, what would I gain? Nothing.
Secondly, I would never dishonor myself or American Pit Bull Terrier by lying about anything.
I have come clean and I have stood up to idiots and that makes people made because they know I am telling them the truth and the facts speak for themselves.
For the Pit Bull owners reading this. Thank you for being responsible and thank you for putting up with the rest of the worlds bull crap.
Best Regards,

No! Thank you! You are the one who is writing this and informing thousands of people with this site. All I can do is inform several people I meet on the street or work with.
I do put up with lots of crap, but we’ve all been through that.
It is always rewarding to meet someone on the street that adores the breed as much as you do. For example, a few months ago Emily and I were in the park and a woman came up to us and told me how much Emily was cute. We also had Emily’s sister, Abby. The woman said she had a dog that looked just like Abigail. Abby is fawn with lots of white on her face. The woman was going crazy over Emily and Abby and it made me so happy.
The sad thing is, Pit Bulls are so friendly it makes them so easy to steal. Abby was stolen out of her fenced in backyard a few weeks ago. She belonged to my aunt. We are all mad and sad, we are just so full of mixed emotions about it. My aunt’s other Pit Bull, Rust Monster, aka Rusty is upset as well. I guess dogs get emotionally attatched as well as humans. My Aunt Cathy has several other dogs, just mutts, but they don’t seem to care as much as Rusty does. It is very sad.
We all miss Abigail terribly. We all hope we can find her soon.

I’m a new reader of this blog; having just obtained a pit bull (AKC registered) and lab mix, I thought it would be wise to find out some information from people who own these types of dogs.
Let me just rephrase that.
…having just had a pit bull/lab mix dumped on me, I thought it would be wise to find out whether or not I should keep him, haha.
Anyway, I’m somewhat (completely) unfamiliar with “breed bans” and would appreciate any info that anyone could offer. Also, if you know anything about pit/lab mixes, I would suck your big toe for that info, too.
Thanks!
No big toe sucking allowed here. lol. Pit Bull/lab mixes can not be AKC registered. Unless you are saying the dog is out of an AKC American Staffordshire Terrier and a Lab. As far as info, they are mixed breed dog that can show either or both breed traits. It depends on how heavy the Pit Bull genetics vs. the Lab genetics are in the dog. All in all, you’ll have a hyper dog that likes to fetch.
I am done. I understand your passion for you breed. I have a weimaraner and would be outraged if someone tried to ban the breed. Again I understand your love and attachment to your dog.
But most dogs are not capable of killing a grown man. Pit bulls can. If you cannot see past your emotional attachment and that there are issues with the breed then we are done.
I had rottweilers a while back. One was a puppy and the other was a rescue from the same breeder. About a year into ownership the puppy was great and well integrated with people and other dogs. The rescue turned on me one night and bit me on the forearm. The next day I had him put down.
If he were a lab, spaniel, poodle, etc. I would not have had him put down. BUT, I understood that the rottweiler could potentially cause much more extensive damage than most dogs.
Jason, would you have done this?
If you cannot see the difference between breeds then there is no need to even debate. To compare the small dogs that nip peoples heels to a pit bull bite is, to me, not even remotely a good analagy.
Also, I am curious why you say the CDC stats are “out of context”. I am guessing you are going to say something about pit bulls versus pit bull mixes.
First, the CDC said their information is being taken out of context. Not me.
They have publically stated they will not allow their information to be used incorrectly anymore by cities and courts.
As far as dog bites. Yes, I would have put the Rotty down. But I would also put down the poodle, the lab, the Spaniel etc…
There is no excuse for a dog that bites. PERIOD. The only exception I have with biting dogs are protection dogs, police dogs, and Military dogs.
The Pit Bull can kill a grown man. So can a Standard Poodle. A Rott. A St. Bernhard. A NewFoundland. A Malamute and about 50 other breeds I can think of.
And when I talk about the little breeds, I think about KIDS who get bit in the face by the Pomeranian or the Silky or the Yorkshire or the Toy Poodle. Believe me, not all of them nip. Some will bite with serious intent and that is not to be taken lightly. Just because an adult can take the bite doesn’t mean they should tolerated. Again, what about the 5,6,10 year old that takes a bite in the eye?
Now, the way BSL works, the Rott that you liked? That didn’t bite you? Should have been put down too because well, he was a Rotty after all.
This just in: Last night on the news, the mayor of Indianapolis said he wanted to start getting ready for some BSL. The Indy Pit Crew was going up against him. I don’t know what else happened, but I just thought I’d tell you.
Indy is already passed the Dangerous Dog Laws, so I believe that will probably be next.

Victor, people like you make me sick! You are
responsible for the breed ban in most of the states
in America and now it started in Europe as well.
Every dog has a potential to become aggressive,
it depends how the dog is being raised. They are
intelligent animals, if you train your dog or my
neighbors Poodle, or my pit bull to be aggressive,
to attack, to be mean, then it will not attack only
a grown man but other animals as well. Your opinion
on this breed is clouded by the media and the
irresponsible owners! That is all I have to say!
Jason – thanks :) I wasn’t too interested in having him AKC registered, I just don’t care about all of that business, but I thought I’d mention that the mother was. We ended up giving him away because he was getting rather big at only 10 weeks and it just wasn’t right to raise him in an apartment, no matter how often we took him outside. The couple we gave him to are dog lovers with a big yard and already had two other pups of mixed breed around his age, so I feel it was a wise choice. Still, I have mourned that dog since he left! I’m dog sick now. I think we may go to the animal shelter this weekend and try to find a small dog that will remain small.
Victor – you had your dog put down because he turned on you and bit your forearm? That’s a bit ridiculous. If you felt that threatened (or angry), couldn’t you have tried to find another home for him?
When I was 16yrs old, I was playing with our 3yr old shih tzu when she got hold of my palm and hung on. After a couple of sutures and a yellow cast, I knew I would be just fine. Of course it hurt, I cried. But I cried even more when my parents took her to the vet. I felt it was my fault, in a way it was. I had a doberman and shephard/mix in the house and knew to be careful when we played, not ever did I think a 12-lb dog would bite me. My parents did not put her down (thankfully) but instead signed her up for extra training lessons and signed me up for classes with her on responsible ownership, where I learned about pet agression, in all breeds, and tons more. I remember the first thing my mom told me before classes began was “there are no BAD DOGS, just BAD OWNERS”.
now at 22yrs old, I am a proud, responsible owner of a 1yrd old pit/mix sabrina. After 4 months of training, 2 harnessess, and tons of doggie treats, she is absolutly amazing, compared to her coming home to me from the shelter. I know she still has training to go, but she can do it, and so can i.
I want to thank those responsible dog owners, from bully breeds, to them little dogs that fit in purses, to showing what a GOOD OWNER and GOOD DOG truly is. and to thank Jason for bringing to light a wonderful website that I highly reccommed and a very good training manual (that i borrowed from a friend and just refuse to give back).
Thank You
I am not a breeder, but my APBT was given to my two sons as a co-owner and she was breed and had 8 puppies. I took care of the mother during her heat and labor and I delivered the puppies. My son found great homes for four puppies. They are all people he knows that will form a club and get together to do good things with their dogs. I still have three pups left to find homes for. My son wants to keep one so that leave me with two pups. I would love to keep them. They are so great! It sure is hard to find loving homes for them. I have tried many ways to find them homes to no avail. It seems to me no one wants them because of all the bad publicity. I am willing to sort of adopt them out to people. Can you direct me to find great homes for them?
Ava
Alicia,
“,..a bit ridiculous,..”?
I think I understand where Jason is coming from and have a bit of a changed view on BSL in the past week.
I am leaning more towards the fact that most of the problem with any breed is the owner and the lack of stringent envorcement of existing laws.
But I suspect that with your response to me putting down MY rottweiler you are most likely one of the problem owners.
Lets see,…give my 180 lb. Rottweiler to someone else so they can deal with a the problem?? He had been through heel and behavior training with me.
Yes he bit my forearm but unless you have ever been bitten by a rottweiler then you should not speak to the subject. He broke the skin and caused a small fracture of my arm.
Oh sure I could have given him to someone who likes that type of rottie and had him chained or in a cage most of the rest of his life.
I did not feel threatened or even remotely angry. That is a ridiculous statement. I felt sad because I immediately knew he had to be put down. Angry?? I sat in the vets clinical room for 45 minutes after he had passed and cried.
And Andre,…I won’t even waste my time. Your comment does not even begin to address what with pit bulls. Yeah,..a trained poodle could really chew the hell out of your shoelace.
To Alicia,
“Victor – you had your dog put down because he turned on you and bit your forearm? That’s a bit ridiculous. If you felt that threatened (or angry), couldn’t you have tried to find another home for him?”
No, you can not put a dog like this in a “good home” because he will bite again. A biting dog is a biting dog and unless the owner is willing to put the work in to managing the issue the dog should not be rehomed the dog should be put down. I take exception to the comment about finding a good home because for every 1 dog that bites there are 50 that don’t. Put down the biter and free up the space and home for a non-biting dog.
~Vic~
yes, poodles can bite and badly. i’ve heard many stories about poodle attacks.
http://www.understand-a-bull.com/BSL/OtherBreedBites/AllDogsBite.htm
I just put that on there because I noticed a lot of Labrador attacks. Everyone thinks Labs are the ideal family pet, but they don’t know what other breeds can do. Besides Pits and Rotties and other “aggressive” breeds.
I work at an animal hospital and I see more labs, toy breeds, and dobermans come in for either a)attacking another animal or b)being aggressive towards a member of the household. In the past year I have been at this location, I have seen 3 bully breeds come in. At least 2 of those were from owners not being responsible, for example: have two unspayed females in the house with one intact male, and two bully breeds in an apartment when in most apartments here do not permit medium/large dogs to live in one due to lack of space.
What people do not know (or refuse to understand) is that when it comes to a child, small breeds are not always the right choice. I have seen clients come in with shih tzu and chihuahuas because they have bitten their children (and for how small these canines are they have one hell of a bite). I remember when my cousin adopted an alaskan malamute and he just adored her 4 yrd old daughter and not once acted aggressive. As always, it is how the OWNER treats the dog.
When you bring an animal in your home, be it a canine, feline, even a ferret, people need to understand that besides being a family pet, those animals are just that: A-N-I-M-A-L-S!! They will ALWAYS take with them and exhibit their “natural instincts”. You cannot actually believe that your pet does not have any. They are and always will be an animal FIRST before ever being your family pet.
Also, please do not compare an aggresive dog to a felon (trust me a lot of people at work due). People act and think differently then a dog who just attacked someone or an animal. More than likely that dog was protecting itself and/or feeling it was at harm. People otherwise can say they are sorry, blame it on there “upbringing” or be put in jail and few years later get off for “good behavior”. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? you could of commited murder, and be out years later. WHY? because you had therapy or feel remorseful? how do we REALLY know you wont do it again??
So, the next time you hear of a pitbull or such be put down for being aggressive, did anyone ask the dog if they are sorry? would they do it again? i know animals cant talk but i think few people get my point….
..and yes i am one of those people who just compared…
Jason,
I am the proud owner of a 5 month old female pit named Tess. I fell in love with the breed when a friend adopted one 3 years ago. I’ve had many dogs growing up and a couple as an adult, but none have stolen my heart the way she has. She has an amazing personality, she has countless “sounds” that she makes, incredibly funny and snores likes thunder!
I have so much enjoyed all the information I’ve read on your site and will continue to read and learn about this wonderful dog. The information will help greatly when faced with negativity, which seems to come from every direction since Tess joined us. People talk openly about the love they feel for their dogs and tell stories of silly things they’ve done, however when asked if we have a dog, their facial expressions immediately change as well as the subject when you proudly reply you have a pit bull.
I applaud you for your ability to remain unaffected by news reports. This is something that will definitely take some time for me. It truly makes my blood boil every time I hear another so called “Pit Bull Attack”!
Until Tess became part of our family I was embarassingly unaware of the breed restriction law debate/controversy. Having been bitten by a Doberman as a child, I grew up thinking all Dobermans were vicious dogs, yet never considered (as an adult) that a dog’s life or breed should be eliminated due to the actions of one dog, or a very small percentage of dogs. I’ve also come to meet some very sweet Dobermans!
As with people, there are good and bad, and should be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Again, thank you for this site. I will be visiting often.
Sherrie
Sherrie, You’re welcome and thanks for your comments.
I am not sure if my comment came through the first time, as my computer just “blinked” out. In any event, I am writing this with tears in my eyes, as I have a major decision to make involving “Max,” my beloved pitbull that I have just “inherited.” He’s a great dog with a warm/calm personality. He came from a previous family who couldn’t keep him and is well adjusted. The problem I am having is the fact that I live in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and there is a ban on pitbulls in the County. We are not “allowed” to have a pitbull that was born prior to 1997, which may eventually lead to a total elimination of the breed from the county, because this means the dogs cannot be over about 10 years old. This is so unfair. I have owned two pitbulls (Dread and Spirit) in the past and just recently had to put them down; they were 13 years old and very sick. They were wonderful dogs, and I had no problems with them. Even the gas man would come in the gate with no problem and walk past the dogs to do his job. Plus, my dogs were children lovers. I had not ever been “snapped,” even when Spirit became ill with cancer. Therefore, I am heart-broken that I am faced with this ban. I am a home owner and am at home all day, as I work at night. Therefore, I am more than able to spend time with “Max.” We have a huge back and front yard, plus neighborhood parks. However, I do not want to face the risk of having “Max” taken from me by Animal Control, who (by the way) come with guns on their sides. They will literally shoot the pits if they feel the need to…how sad. Anyway, you guys are right…the owners of these wonderful creatures are usually to blame. I acquired one of my previous pits from a neighbor….I basically “forced” him to give me the dog because I knew he was fighting them (Rotts and Pits).
Anyway, what can I do? I am so sad about this. I was thinking to just take a chance and keep him…just keep him on the “dl” (down-low). However, I would really be torn apart if something happened and “Max” was taken from me. What should I do? I really love him.
Hello.
I’m writing this comment in behalf of my friend Marcelo, owner of the Agrupacion de Pit Bull de Argentina (apba), a non profit organization (obviously from Argentina).
As he doesn’t speak English, he asked me to read some of your blog for him, and he asked me to tell you that he is glad to find that there are more people around the world that share his passion for this breed.
Pit bulls are great dogs, and Marcelo himself is carrying a long-time fight against those people who organize illegal dog fights (sadly frequent in my country). He also organizes events where pit bulls are evaluated and get prizes according to their characteristics.
Anyways, he says “Sigue así”, which means “keep it up”.
You can find his site (in spanish only, for now) at http://www.apbaweb.com.ar
Thanks.
you do know ignorance is bliss to the people who don’t know any better..so its like all your ranting and raving is just showing them that even the pitbull owners are viscious, and should be watched… so i say beat them at their own game.. by going to legislation and getting our own bills passed …pitbull friendly and justify why its the bad owner…so the breed isn’t being the scape goat…we( the lovers/owners of tis beautiful breed)need to unite and stand up to these people in our cities and towns who are trying to pass these holocaustic laws..if hitler did this it would be wrong.. but we need to pull together any fight this the good way,not by bad publicity..have any of yous learned anything from history ??? gandhi, martin lutherking ..bring everyone together and protest with out putting the greater good at risk..now i know it easier said than done but that is the way to get peoples attention… okay this breed specific legislation does it inclued human breeds?? if so, why aren’t we elminating them too!!? if they are dangerous and violent why not get rid of them to?? well it has to with mans way of thinking, that we are the top of all creation, and we can do what we want with no cosequences, but every other species have deadly consequences for even being who they are..animals that man has domesticated from the WILD!! hence their wild instincts, when cornered or abused to fight back.. more later seeya
I’m so glad that there is so many people trying to fight for this breed I’m a proud owner of 2 i have been rasing pit bulls for over 10 yrs now and i wouldnt own another breed thanks and look at my space page its cool to know there r millions out there like us
thanks again
pround owner Jenn
cheers on you. I am so elated that you know about Taco. I work with a foundation in Calgary, Alberta called Pitbulls for Life. We are a rescue foundation, and are very heart broken over the ban in Ontario. We have taken foster dogs from there as well as from Hurricane Katrina (where my pitbull/miniture pinscher cross came out of) Thank you to everyone who is educated and passionate about these beautiful, wonderful creatures that are our friends. My purebred texas rednose Telly is by far my best friend and Jackson my little guy is my cuddle buddy. Love to them all.
hey i need help!!! I have a baby pit her name is patches she’s 4 weeks old and I live in an apartment that forbids animals…so I’m trying to leave A.S.A.P. I have called different apartments that are pet friendly and ask if they accept pit bulls. So far mostly all of them has said no,they are considered aggresive even though they maybe be sweet,or they are not sure if they do accept them.I live in the silver spring area in Maryland.I wanted to know if anyone knows of any website apartments, that allow pits.please Help!!
Just do this, get your hands on a good dog breed book preferably with pictures. i myself dont know breeds, most people dont. Ok now in your mind, if your against the American Pit Bull Terriors and like breeds, put the dogs in order of the danger and fear level you feel. Now your going to put the APBT and like breeds first and lets say a chiwawa last. Thats just my guess for last because they are so little. My point is where do you personally draw the line? Do you really hold the APBT so far high as apposed to the other dogs? If APBT are “phased out” you now have a new leader, whether its lets say a rott, a doberman, a german shepard. Now there are still attacks every day and im sure there will still be deaths. But wait, the APBT were eliminated so we move on to the new leader and most feared do and so on. Where do we draw the line if we let this happen. If APBT are no longer with us there will be the same problems were facing now just with a different breed. I have a 1 1/2 year old APBT named Trigger. My Boyfriend and I bought him from a breeder when he was 6 weeks old. He is my best friend and loved by all who now and meet him, a statement any dog owner would say.I beleive people have a right to their opinion as far as either side goes and no one should approach the other with the goal of, im right, your wrong, so you need to think the way i do.On the other hand facts speak higher than opinions. As far as Jasons concerned, I embrace the idea of his “opinions are backed up by facts. When your voicing your opinion on the support of the pit bull ban, get some facts, not just the ones you want to hear. How about taking the time to educate yourself about the subject that you are voicing. For example: You are someone who has never been around “pit bulls”, the only ideas you have on the breed are what you see on the news and hear from others. Do you even think to debate what you are seeing/hearing? No. Do you Know why, because the ignorance and prejudice, spawning from fear, spreads like wild fire. Once again your opinion belongs to you but wouldnt it be nice to have the facts to support it. So my plea from you is get educated dont want to kill off “pit bulls” because they look scary or they make the news(which if you look “pit bulls are not the only dogs that bite or kill, the reason they make the news is for the shock value. If they did a story on an Akita dog biting/killing a 12 year old, which has happened, it wouldn’t have the same effect as their story “A Pit Bull attacked and killed a 12 year old today” that would get your attention. Did you ever notice the interveiws of lets say a car accident. You usually dont see an average joe, its usually someone for one reason or another, that stands out or is loud, something to grab your attention, shock value.)All im saying is dont let society make your decision for you. I guarentee youll have a change of mind you may still have the same opinion but youll have something to talk and/or debate about instead of speaking a load of crap. As far as my dog trigger, i love that dog, he was my little man, when my boyfriend wasnt home. He would cuddle me, protect me, and just pure and simple love me back. Its all on how you raise a dog, any dog can be aggresive with bad owners for many reasons. Even owners who think theyre doing a good job, they may be missing something resulting in aggression. The bottom line is people are the cause of dogs aggresion, dogs are not born to attack/kill therefore they should not be punished for our deed. And its beyond me why such an extreme is being taken. Ok a percentage of APBT have attacked?killed people so get rid of every one. So if a percentage of other breeds have done the same, get rid of them too, and while were at it lets get rid of every species on the planet including humans, because im sure, some percentage of all breeds/species have attacked/killed at one time or another. Then well be problem free.
I just wanted to say thanks to Jason for giving pit bulls a voice! I am the proud owner of an pit/lab mix and just hate all the crap you get for owning a pit. I can’t say enough about how good this dog. I’m not blind to the fact that the breed is known for aggression. I am a responsible owner and therefore my dog is no threat to anyone. People with enough time to worry about bsl need to volunteer…basically get a life…maybe worry about the war in Iraq. Thanks Jason for all your doing for this sweet breed!
Ps- As a child I was bit by a golden retreiever…requiring stiches.
i have a beautiful lab/pit mix shes great with my kids very loveable and smart i wouldnt change a thing about her of course she is a dog and is protective she will give a warning growl to anyone she does not know who is coming to close to her family and i know when someone is walking down the street from across the street definitly a good gaurd dog not vicious just loyal and protective very smart and playful when my youngest started walking she helped him play inthe sink he would stand on her back and jump on top of her pit scary nah shes just a big fat lovable dog who runs around with juice stains on heer pretty white coat after a nap with her buddys
About Pits being “born killers”…..please educate yourself. Pits have been bred for lot of years not to be human aggressive. Handlers often had to break up dog fights and even if a dog bit a human by mistke he was put down so as not to breed aggressive pits. I to was misinformed by the media and almost missed out on one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have had Brandy (my pit) for 2 yrs. She has never been aggressive not one day in her life. If you prefer not to own or care for a pit fine. If you want to push for the stricter enforcment of leash laws so do I. However how can you tell me your rights supercede mine. How can my dog how is NEVER allowed out of my house without her leash a danger to you? And about BSL the L needs dropped because it sounds like a lot of B.S. to me.
