New Year, Same Ignorance
January 12th, 2007
You know I was hoping common sense would prevail in 2007 but alas, my hopes are dashed. Well at least so far this year.
I moderated a ton of comments and there are people there talking about protecting kids, calling Pit Bull owners “a-holes” and a few about how they have dealt with the ignorance on a personal level.
One person said, “Pits are truly the most dangerous dog other than a wolf.”
Wolves are not dogs. Another ignorant comment.
I would ask people to sit down and think about it for a moment.
Ask yourself, if the American Pit Bull Terrier is so vicious how it is that millions of them live worldwide and we only see a handful of attacks?
There is only ONE Pit Bull and that is the PUREBRED American Pit Bull Terrier. Unless you know for a fact the dog is purebred American Pit Bull Terrier it can NOT be considered
a Pit Bull.
The problem is everyone tosses in 8-9-10 other breeds that are similar to the American Pit Bull Terrier and calls them Pit Bulls.
Even then though, that would only increase the numbers of dogs called, “pit bulls” and still only a handful of dogs attack, maul, or kill people each year.
If they were all so vicious wouldn’t we see thousands of attacks on a daily basis? Wouldn’t 200-300 people a year die at the teeth of these animals?
Of course. Use your common sense.
I think it’s ignorant to assume my dog will kill a kid because a dog in Spain did.
I think it is ignorant to think my dog will “turn on me” because a dog bite it’s owner in Ohio.
I think it is completely ignorant to assume that millions of other dogs are “dangerous” because ONE or TWO incidents in some city in anywhere USA.
One commentor said, “You childish a–holes think its so important to look ‘cool’ next to a ‘bad-a–’ dog that you don’t give a f— about innocent human bystanders. Is this your subconscious revenge upon the world for not getting the attention you feel you’ve always deserved? Haven’t you people begun to figure out by now that others immediately assume pit bull owners are dopes with inferioritycomplexes. You would think that stigma alone would dissuade some of you, but I guess you’re too dense to ‘get’ it.”
So now you are a Psych major and know me? Ummm. Wake up.
I can some up every reaction to the “Pit Bull Dilemma” in two words. Fear and Ignorance.
Then again, as Joe Public above pointed out, I might be dense.
You know I wrote this post because it’s time to really stop bickering amongst ourselves and find a real solution to this situation.
In 2007 I hope that we (Pit Bull owners and Non-Pit BUll owners) can finally see some middle ground and make some headway for well being of the dogs.
I for one am sick of ignorant comments, how about you?
Have a great day!
Best Regards,
Jason, Angel CGC/CTD, Honey and Mr. Patches, the innocent Mixed breed dog.

Could a “name change” for these dogs, be the answer? I find, when I am out and about with my dog, people have never even seen a Pit Bull before. They comment on the beauty of my dog, and ask me what kind he is, then when I tell them…well, sometimes they’re reviled, as if that changed his beautifulness. They were once called “Yankee Terriers”, what about that? And take the stigma of the “pit”, away.
People become hysterical over incidents unrelated to their own experience quite easily.
If the media hacks report a kidnapping in Seattle, parents from LA to Boston fear for their children’s safety.
Tricks such as re-reporting, misreporting, disreporting, tying in unrelated incidents, etc, are all media tricks used to give a story more ‘bite’.
I’ve linked you on my sidebar.
ALL dog owners must stand together and speak with one voice against discrimination, or these will be the good old days of dog ownership.
Caveat (Ontario, Canada)
What amazes me is how many of these idiots form public policy!
Hello:
I’d like your opinion.
When I was a kid my Mom bought us a pitbull. He was awesome. We loved him so much. Most of the time, he stayed in the house with us. Sometimes, though, he stayed in the backyard. A problem arose when he started jumping over our six-foot privacy fence to chase kids walking past our house on their way home from school. After a couple close calls in which he almost bit a few children, we ended up giving him away. It was a sad day in my life.
Now I am an adult and I have two small children of my own.
My neighbor three doors down has two pit bulls that have quickly grown into some pretty big dogs. They are kept in cages in their garage. They often get loose and it is something all of the neighbors are worried about.
I fear that our neighbors are unaware of the POTENTIAL danger that the dogs represent. In our neighborhood, the houses are kind of packed in right on top of each other………it’s not a sprawling neighborhood. The dogs make me feel very defensive………and this is coming from someone who once had a pitbull and loved him immensely.
One day my little dog started barking at the back door. Turns out the two pitbulls had got loose and were in my backyard. What if my daughter or son had been out there?
It could have been an awful nightmare. We feel lucky. (See attached picture of the two dogs……very sweet by the way. They are much bigger now).
So my question is this: How can I go about communicating to my neighbor that I feel threatened by their dogs and the nature in which they are taken care of?? I understand loving a dog…….I truly do, but at the same time my children mean more to me than anything. The dogs make me feel threatened.
I don’t know what to do.
What do you think?
Looking for an honest opinion,
Josh in Tampa
I live in London Ontario, where Pitties have been BANNED for a year now. Pit Bulls that were born before the By-Law had to be fixed, microchipped and registered as a Pit Bull, and my precious dog has to wear a muzzle and be on a leash whenever he’s outside. The thing that pisses me off most about this is, now people are assuming my dog is vicious because he has the muzzle on…and they are afraid of hiim even though he has the muzzle on. Even IF he was mean, what could he do with the friggin muzzle on??? It drives me crazy….and on top of that, how is my dog supposed to get his energy out if he can’t run around with a stick or ball, or even run at all??? These laws are so bloody stupid….I just hope it proves to be a failure like in other US states that had the law instated and then revolked….it is so ignorent…and it’s a shame bad owners have given great dogs a bad name….
A die hard pit bull lover
I came upon your blog by accident and it caught my interest. I’m a dog owner…not a pitbull owner. Never owned one. It is possible that the pittbulls have gotten unfair media attention…but that’s where people like me hear stuff about pittbulls. I believe that if raised from puppy they can be very nice dogs. I guess it might be the fear of “what if…” that prevents parents like me from taking the rick of adopting a pittbull. What if in this one instance I’m wrong and something does happen to one of my family members? I would never forgive myself. But to keep it fair, I’ll tell you that this choice is not limited to pittbulls for me. I got the completely “safe” dog…the golden retriever. So…there are other breeds which I would not take a chance on….even including husky on the list ( which I heard can snap if annoyed).
The problem with adoption of pittbulls for me is with the shelters not the pittbulls themselves. In example…I watched “Miami animal police” where they rescued 6 pittbulls. 5 of them were fighting dogs, one was just used for breeding. The female did seem to have been treated well and friendly. Two of the pittbulls were not adoptable, but 3 were being prepared for adoption. It is already a fact that these dogs were raised to be agressive….yet the shelter put them up for adoption? We would like to think that the whole story was told to the adopting family…but I have adopted an adult dog from a shelter before and I was not told the wholoe story. What they told me dog was like, wasn’t at all what I experienced. Having small kids, I had to give the dog back. So, I guess what I’m saying is that people fear the unknown. I do….I fear what it is that people/shelter doesn’t tell me. Do I think if raised from a puppy it can be a good dog…sure. Do I think that shelters should adopt out dogs who are fighting dogs…definetely NOT. The risk is too high.
Yep, It’s a damn shame. You should see the looks I get having a APBT and being a cop and all. Jason, I know I shouldn’t spoil Bosco, but let’s face it, I enjoy spoiling him. My Chief’s secretary (Assistant) asked me why I owned a dog like Bosco and said he was dangerous. That she knew the breed was mean. Later in the debate she admitted to knowing nothing about dogs and not liking dogs. I did btw help the city inact a dangerous dog ordinance that has nothing to do with breed types.

I have a 7 month old pitbull named farah and she is the love of my life. She is by far the most sweetest and obiedant dog one could ever wish for. When people ask me what breed of dog she is, upon announcing it they shutter away and refrain from petting her. Not only does this hurt me but it confuses my little girl Farah. Animals know when they are liked and not liked. But back to the main issue, it is stunning how ignorant and uneducated people are about pitbulls. When hearing about dog attacks, pitbulls are involved only a small fraction of the time and this ONLY occurs because the pitbull owners did not train their dog properly or it is often mistreated itself and is lashes out with agression. Like any dog, it can become agressive and mean depending on who raises and teaches the dog. People need to get it into their thick heads that it’s not the breed of dog it’s the OWNER. a dog is as only good as it’s OWNER is. Maybe people who hate these “aggressive” pitbulls she cast judgement on the owners themselves not on the breed as a whole. Anyone who wants to see how pitbulls really are, should spend a day with a loving owner who owns a pitbull…their outlook with automatically be adjusted. I love pitbulls and I know tons of people who have them and they are great family dogs and I trust my girl with anyone. So for all who cast stupid, ignorant jusdement on pitbulls…maybe educate yourself first.
My aunt and uncle got the completely “safe” dog, to quote a past poster, a golden retriever, which bit my 2 year old cousin on the face and left a lifetime scar. You can never be sure which dogs will attack. No matter the breed, you just never know.
I adopted a pitbull who is the sweetest, most outgoing dog I’ve ever met. She’s never so much as growled at anyone and she LOVES children. She is trusting of almost anyone, and I doubt that she’d even attack an intruder in my home. I’ve worked with dogs and found that you can’t decide which ones are vicious based on breed only.
Pitbulls are known by many people as “nanny dogs” because of the way they act around children. They are well known by pitbull lovers to be protective of kids. These are the dogs who are treated as family, and not kept locked up in crates in the garage all day. If you treat any dog with such neglect as to deny them socialization and exercise, no matter the breed, you are going to have problems when they get loose. It’s the abuse and neglect that an animal endures which causes them to “snap”, in my honest opinion. Unfortunately, a lot of “thug” types who own pitbulls don’t treat them very well, and they are trained to be aggressive and hostile. Apparently this makes the owner feel cool and macho or something. It’s too bad that this breed is the favorite of losers like this, and they give pitbulls a bad name.
When people first meet my dog, they are struck by how pretty and sweet she is. They’ll get right down in her face to give her love. Then they ask me what kind of dog she is, and when I say pitbull, they pull away like she’s going to attack them all of a sudden. Yeah, now that you know she’s a “vicious” breed, you are scared of this big baby laying at your feet, smiling at you.
I feel so bad for pitbull-lovers and their dogs who are suddenly shunned when they are asked the breed of their beautiful dogs. I personally have had this happen to me only once. But I have spoken with many pitbull owners (in fact anytime I see anyone with a pitbull I try to talk with them) and most seem almost apologetic of their breed. Often when I’m at the vet for some supplies I’ll ask someone if their dog is a pitbull and in hushed tones they’ll admit that yes, he or she is and by golly the best dog they ever had.
I say, WHY the hushed tones?! WHY the apologetic demeanor?! I am SO PROUD of my lovely Camilla I REFUSE to be brow-beaten by some person ignorant of the reality of life with pitbulls. I do realize that many pitbulls are not treated well, and as a result of that, or poor temperments due to bad breeding that some of them may be unstable. I am cautiously optimistic with any dog I encounter, pitbull or not. But certainly it is a mistake to form a blanket judgement on an entire breed due to a newspaper article, or even a scary dog that lives in your neighborhood.
Am I careful when Camilla is around my two tiny grandchildren? Yes. She is a large dog (even if she stepped on them she could hurt them – she’s 90 lbs.) I am also aware that ANY dog could view small children as a potential rivals for toys, food, or even attention and I am unwilling to risk anything happening to my grandchildren. I do feel, witnessing her maternal attitude around them that, they are quite safe. But for their sake, and certainly for Camilla’s, I refuse to put her in a situation where she could get into trouble, or they could get hurt. Camilla is not my only dog, I have a yellow lab and a German shepherd as well as two small elderly dogs. I feel the same way about them all.
Let’s all stand up and be boldly proud of our dogs. There seem to me to be many happy healthy pitbulls around with fine homes. It’s not enough just to have one. For the good of them all, we must be bold in our appreciation of them.
Little Jinx was bred to fight because that is sadly what some people still use pitt bulls for in South Africa. She arrived at my doorstep wrapped in my husband’s cap almost 8 months ago
weighing a miniscule 300grams, tummy bloated with every known parasite as her ‘breeder’ has finally managed to outbreed his bitch and as I work at a wildlife sanctuary, he felt that I will be able to raise this pup.
She is not a registered American Pitt Bull as these backyard breeders have different ‘bloodlines’ that they go for but she is definately the spitting image of a Pitt Bull.
My parents were mortified when they were told we have a Pitt Bull and knew every bogus story about how vicious these dogs are, how many people have been killed by them and warned me that my 8-year old daughter will be
the next Pitt Bull victim…They have changed their tune and Jinx with her people loving personality have educated my terrified family. My once anti-Pitt Bull parents are now fans of the breed (although I doubt whether they will actually become owners) and
we are welcome to tag Jinx along when visiting them during which time my mom overfeeds her!
There are no dangerous breeds, only dangerous people. Why do you need to pass an exam to drive a car, own a firearm and even move from one grade in school to another, but to be responsible for another living creature is a given? If a dog is a potentially dangerous weapon and a loaded gun then the owner is definately the trigger….
Jason, I’m here supporting you buddy, its amazing how “ignorant, uneducate & ridiculous” people le truly are! I’m all about standing up for the breed and supporting it every where we go! People think they know everything because the “media” tells them all the truth! ha! its amazing how much people follow the media and never do any true research and just hop on the bandwagon and believe everything they hear!
I have to agree with Jason a hundred percent. And I truly have to say, it is the society we live in that is so ignorant. Its like saying some kids killed their parents so all parents should worry about their kids killing them. Its like saying some muslims are terrorists in Iraq so all Detroiters should worry about the Muslims that live here, its like saying some lady got mugged and shot while walking down the street in broad daylight so we should all call the cops on people we see walking down the street. So stupid, so ignorant and im really sick of having to defend my pit against comments from my family and friends who think they are “dangerous”
As another reader put it above:
“There are no dangerous breeds, only dangerous people. Why do you need to pass an exam to drive a car, own a firearm and even move from one grade in school to another, but to be responsible for another living creature is a given? If a dog is a potentially dangerous weapon and a loaded gun then the owner is definately the trigger…. ”
No single breed of dog is automatically born being vicious, this comes from mistreating any breed of dog by the owner. If a dog attacks they blame the breed. The owner is the one to blame. Maybe they should start handing out long jail sentences to those who mistreat thier animals instead of punishing the dog and it’s entire breed for the actions of one ignorant sometimes abusive owner.
This subject is a very sensitive one for me to talk about. I feel with all my heart and soul that pit bulls make the best lifetime companion. They are the most loyal, loving, affectionate, playful, sweetest, obedient, beautiful, did I mention down right irresistable dogs on the face of the earth!
I do NOT beleive that shelters should stop adopting out abused or mistreated bullys. I think that they were dealt a bad hand and deserve the chance to be rehabilitated to enjoy a happy healthy life as god intended. I DO however beleive the shelter should in no way hide the facts about the dogs past conditions or environment. They should make the history of the dog well known and only adopt to a responsible person who has the time and the means to rehabilitate the dog. Remember we can’t blame the dog for the actions of the owner. All living things deserve a chance for a happy healthy life.
A pit bull can become a loving companion even if it had been abused all they need is a loving human that will take the time to love and nurture him. He will need to learn to trust again, and that takes alot of patience, but the reward far exceeds the effort. I myself have a 18 month old APBT named Sasha, she is the love and light in my life. And we have recently rescued a mistreated and malnourished APBT named Zena. She was a bit unshure about us at first but we are filling up her belly and showing her lots of love and she is coming around. I know it will be some work retraining a 3 year old pit bull who really has no idea how to just be a dog, but it is sooooooooo worth it. I could’nt bear the idea of leaving her in the condition in which she was in, and I could’nt call my local humane society (they have an automatic kill policy on all pit bulls brought in)so I took her home. I am willing to give as much of myself to this dog as is necisary to help her learn to live and love.
I could go on about this amazing breed of dog for hours on end, but I think you get the idea. They truly are remarkable dogs, and deserve to have the respect of our communities.
I think pitbulls are the best dogs every. Its not the breed its the owners.
well i just wanted to say hi…my husband and i own a Pit Bull over here in australia we have 5 daughters under 12 ..and miss 5 played midwife to our cleo when she had puppies(the neighbours dog got her)it took us months to get her back in shape..she still very thin..but we keep her inside most of the time..she likes it better..and well considering she is “WANTED”..by our govt..she’s safer inside..yes here in australia we have a stupid law called BSL..its so racist and well to me cruel and its discrimination!!!..but im enjoying all these tips and stories keep up the good work Jason!!
I have to say that it irritates me when I walk my two pits down the street and people cross the road just to get away from them. One woman even made a comment to me that dogs like that should not be on a public sidewalk. Hello!! PUBLIC sidewalk. I used to have a pomeranian and HE was the biter, not my pits. I agree that people need to have time to properly train their dog, and give them the attention they need. I feel bad for people that live where pits are banned, I don’t know what I would do if that happend in my town. I think it’s great to get the word out and educate people that pits are not mean. I have a friend who REFUSES to come to my house, even if my dogs were caged, (which I would not do becuase it is their house not hers) only because she is affraid that they will attack her. She has NEVER even met a pit befor. She got a lab because they are “safe” family dogs. I printed out articles about labs that attack neighbors, owners, & kids (the internet is a great thing) and gave them to her, and she still thinks that pits are mean and labs are nice. Has anyone seen a website with a picture of 25 dogs? It is called “find the pit.” Only one of the 25 is a pit bull terrior. It is pretty cool, it took me 4 guesses before I picked the right one! It just goes to show that people don’t even know what a pit is, let alone if it is dangerous or not!! Get educated people!!
Totally agree with everyones ‘positive’, intelligent comments. All dogs have teeth and can bite..not only our beloved pitbulls. With media hype and a lot of exaggerated reports that sells newspapers or makes good viewing for the 6pm news, the ‘public’ are like sheep and follow. They believe what they are reading , seeing ,or hearing as the TRUTH without question ! What’s that saying..”believe only half of what you read..? and people are suppose to be the most ‘intelligent’ of all the species ? Like some of you, I have experienced people going gaga over my babies until they ask what breed, then they suddenly jump back, pull their kids away and do the total 180 degrees turn. When I experienced that reaction for the first time, I laughed and asked ‘why the sudden change ? ‘Oh pit bulls are mean’. My reply was , “ha ! you were just enjoying the licking, the wiggle-butt tail wags and having fun, now finding out my baby is a pitbull, you move away ? I find this very predjuice towards me and my dog, and wonder if you do this with people too , example, if you are out some place and a casual conversation strikes up between you and a stranger and you are totally enjoying the exchange until a person of color or dressed differently appears next to the person you are speaking with…do you react in the same distasteful way ?? I believe this type of prejudice is PREDJUDICE IN FULL BLOWN MODE ! Thankfully that was many years ago..Nowadays if this was to happen,I’d inform them on their ignorance and suggest they do reasearch !! It has been mentioned that people have a ‘safe breed’ like a golden retriever and don’t worry because they feel their dog is safe..NEWS FLASH !! Any breed can go ballistic and that goes for goldens too ! Many shelters do not tell the total story, perhaps it’s because they were not told or house dogs without checking their temperment or a combination of things. A “reputable rescue” or shelter will tell you ! I adopted my male from a rescue that told me the whole story..and before the adoption. My dog was used as a ‘bait dog’, he refused to fight and was ABUSED in every possible way !! Thankfully something happened and he escaped . Wounds , cuts, holes on his starved bloody body, he somehow had the will to survive for two weeks took that long to be rescued from the streets ) was told that as soon as he was caught he collapsed into the arms of the rescuer.. It took patience , lots of patience and lots of love . Long story short, he was a very abused dog,a dog afraid of everything, everybody..Although he was treated like crap he has NEVER shown any aggression towards people..Proud to say my Beau is a SUCCESS SORY. He will turn 6 years in March and I have been his companion since he was 2 years !! He shares his life with my other female pitbull, a cat and a flock of birds ! He is the BEST !! GIVE these dogs a chance to be free to love and enjoy what time we are blessed to spend with them…they won’t let you down. Sharron
All pitt bulls need a chance. I think is stupid that you can ban a breed of dog. My two pitt bulls are the best dogs I have ever had. They are fast learners and very quick to please. My dogs were rescued from the local pound. Sitting on death row. Now they have the best life. It just goes to show you they are not treated fair. I am proud of pitt bulls!!!!!!!!
Hello all… if you’re in London, Ontario…on May 12th 2007 from 2-5 pm Advocates for the Underdog will be holding its 2nd annual Bowling for Bullies Bowlathon. If you are able to attend come on out. If you need info about the event, pledge forms or posters, please email me at pittiwear@gmail.com Last year was a blast, don’t miss this years! All funds raised fight BSL in Ontario (Bill 132) Thanks alll!
I just cannot believe how people can be so ignorant and just plain stupid. My husband and I have 2 pit bulls and my sisters also has 2. Our neighbors seems to be very scared of the fact that we have pit bulls and insist that we put another fence- besides the one taht we have now – to make sure that our dogs will not touch their fence and that they will not try to go to their place. They said that our dogs bark when they see them – that is what dogs do – BARK! What the heck does he expect from our dogs? One of our neighbors has 2 chihuahuas and yes they’re little but that doesn’t mean they will not bite. He lets them go in the front – no leash or anything just let them walk around and go in front of our house – then he had the nerve to say that I have to make sure my dogs stays in the backyard away from our common fence but he can let his two dogs out loose. I wish that they will understand that the feelings that they have about dogs – are the same feelings I have with mine. They trust their dogs – and I trust mine. We have had our dogs for 4 years and nothing has happened – but steadily everyday – neighbors seems to make a big deal out of it. I can’t wait for the day that my dogs will be the one to rescue them.
This is to the guy who was worried about his neighbors pitbulls, I myself own 3 pitbulls which never fight with each other they are all sweethearts, but anyways you should just go and talk to your neighbor about it, Im sure he will understand and make a point to try and fix his place more securely so the dogs cant escape. My dogs sometimes bark at my friends or anyone coming up to the house but once the people are inside they are just as sweet as a golden retriever its really up to you to talk to your neighbor and let him know how you feel and if possible socialize with the dogs take your family over there so your not so much of a stranger to the dogs.
My son, brought a pittbull,,home one evening. It was clear, that this dog had been starved, and abrused. He said that his friend, found him, And couldnt keep him,,so He felt sorry for the dog. I was not happy at the fact that it was a pittbull. Due to all the ”attack stories”, I had seen on the news,,and read in the news papers. When I looked into this dogs eyes,,It was as it he was pleading for help,,nurturing,,and love. I told my son,,we would try, to help the poor animal,,as long as he kept it in the basement,,My 10 year old daughter was so affraid of dogs,,that she almost got hit by a car,,when,a neighbors dog,,chased her.
As time went on, and I began, to interact with the pitbull. I would feed him,,bathe him,,and hold him,,and hug him. We would talk to him, and tell him,,everything will be alright,,no one would hurt him again.
We named him Gauge,,he is a black mask- buck skin,,chinaman, pittbull. The prettiest face i had ever seen, on a dog. Gauge,,gained weight,,learned to listen,,without being hit. And he loves to kiss. We ask for candy kisses,,and we get our faces soaked,,in his loving,,kisses.
My son,,then bought, another pittbull..Her name is Nina, She is left handed,,black and white,,spots,,with one side of her face black, and the other white. Nina is the most harmless,,gentle, sweet,,fat, loving dog anyone could ask for..she is so smart,,and fast,,she jumps for thr rope,,hangs from a tree branch,,for an hour,,and can catch a ball with her mouth,,and bring it to you,,for hours of gentle,,fun.
My son, bought two more pittbulls,,Scratch,,and our dear Barretta. a male and a female,,These dogs are georgous. Our family,,now has a total,,of 7 pittbulls..My two sons and myself,,has made raising these loving,,babies,,our lifes passion. My daughter,,IS NOT AFFRAID OF DOGS ANY MORE. I bought her a newborn, pittbull,,whom she named Tech, short of Technology,,because he is so smart. Tech, loves my daughter,,so much,,that he sleeps on the floor at the bottom of her bed,,and holds a corner of her blanket in his mouth,,so that she knows he is there. He knows the sound of her school bus,,and waits, in the windowmmfor her to get off the bus,, and then he showers her with kisses and hugs,,,WHAT A NICE WAY TO COME HOME.
My family, spends thousands of dollors each year,,for the care, and up bringing of these dogs. There is Never a time when we feel threatened,,or anger,,or any thing negative,,from our babies. When we breed our two ladies,,we had a total,,Of 22 pittbulls,,between two homes. Our pittbulls are family,,they hug each other,,they kiss each other,,they sleep next to each other,,and hug and cuddle. NEVER ONCE HAS OUR FAMILY OF PITTBULLS,,HURT ANYONE.
Evertime,,I hear somone say”pittbulls are mean,,or will turn on thier owners,,or will attack children,,and all the other negitive,,and ignorant comments..I say to myself..Its such a shame,,that your missing out on so much love. IF YOU RAISE ANY ANIMAL,,TO FIGHT OR BE ”MEAN”THAT IS WHAT THEY BECOME. IF YOU PUTT TWO STARVING DOGS;;ANY BREED” INTO A PITT,,WHILE THEY ARE STARVING,,ANGRY,,FROM BEING MISSTREATED AND ABRUSED,,OF COURSE, THEY WILL FIGHT. THEY ARE VERY OBIEDIENT, ANIMALS,,SO THEY DO JUST WHAT YOU TELL THEM TO DO,,AS THEY STARVE TO PLEASE THIER OWNER.
Our family will continue,,to save, and love, as many pittbulls,,as our homes can hold,,and we will pray fro all that we have no control over. We will pray for the peolpe who abruse, these beautiful dogs,,and all of the animal controll,,and shelters,,who feel that these babies need to be putt to sleep,,before even given,,a chance..GOD HAVE MERSY ON YOU…READ AND LEARN ABOUT PITTBULLS,,STOP JUDGING THEM,,AND STOP BEING SO IGNORANT,,TO THE FACT,,THAT ANY DOG ,CAT, BEAR, SNAKE, ECT WILL ATTACK,,IF THEY FEEL THREATENED…..THEY ARE ALL GODS CREATURES.
THANK YOU,,SINCERLY,,,,SERENA ROBINSON AND FAMILY
I feel the same way. I have a beautiful girl here who is nine. She’s got big brown eyes, all natural ears, she’s dark brown, and she’s got awfully pretty highlights (brindle). She has been a blessing to my family since day one. “I found the perfect fit… and it happens to be my Pit.” Well God Bless you all – you are all doing the right thing my standing your ground, protecting, and defending your babies. They would do the same for you any day. No questions asked. Keep up the good work!! Be proud and happy and so will your dog. God has chosen us to protect these animals from the ignorant ones, because they won’t do it. So, I see it as our job. Its been our job since God created this world…to take care of ALL of his creatures, because we as humans have the upper hand. Its our responsibiliy and obligation to God, and these beautiful fuzzy babies of ours. It takes a special person to see through the stigma.
hi ,i am a owner of 3 pitbullsand i have also raised rotties,,i am 34 years old .My sisters and i are very much in love with this breed. Each one of my dogs have their own personality and i strongly agree with these animals need respect and deserve respect and i am always talking about my dogs,,not so i can look tough or brag,,its to allow people to hear how good of pets they truelly are.If someone hit you or mistreated you ,,how would you react ,but let me guess thats different, how does an animal defend itself? Now that question there is 1 of the best, thats where respect plays a role
Back for another comment, lol,,i am reading some of these comments,,a lady mentioned she has a 7 month old pit and when people hear what breed it is the get nervous,,ok from experience, dogs do get confused they feel the owners emotions and also that of another person ,they notice this and also react ,they do not understand what you are feeling or why,,they just sense the negative vibe, wich to any dog sets off an alarm, telling them somethings wrong. My piont is ,people need to aproache any dog with calm and understanding ,not instant fear.this is why alot of pits DO attack ,people see one roaming get scared ,scream ,run ,the dog reacts,I took in a pit bull that was mistreated,,hated animals and people outside the family, when ever someone comes in the house i would tell them to greet him and not be afraid(cause he sensed it and reacted . i would also walk him ,,he got used to people other animals and does fine now.If (people) don’t eduacate themselves on this breed they will never ever loose their fear and this may be why these dogs attack.A good tip for those who want to learn about this breed and problem animals need to watch the dog wisperer ,,he owns pit bulls and changes dogs with aggresive behavior and makes alot of sense.
