I stopped watching Football about 5 years ago. If I want
to see spoiled whining idiots I can go to the local
high school game.
The news about Michael Vick is not new. Falcons Quarter
Back suspected of dog fighting and now the media is
having a ball with this. They are linking Vick to the
fighting operation and a host of other goodies for
us and football fans to druel over daily.
However, I have two things I want to share with you
about this story.
1. If Mr. Vick is found to be tied to the dog fighting
ring I have no doubt he will get a smack on the wrist
and MAYBE a fine. He might get suspended for a few
games but he’ll return.
3. Odds are Mr. Vick will skate like an olympic
skater for the Gold. No charges are likely to
be filed against the $130 million dollar Falcon
QB because well, he’s a $130 million dollar
investment for Arthur Blank, owner of the
Atlanta Falcons.

A member of our private discussion forum sent me an email asking me to check out a blog post. The person that posted the post says they are a dog trainer. The post starts, “Pit Bull Warning” and then goes on to talk about how Pit Bulls attack people and are only doing what they are bred to do.
Right off the bat the blogger is wrong. Pit Bulls aka The American Pit Bull Terrier was bred for bull baiting and then later was bred for fighting other dogs. On that note they were bred to be people friendly. It bewilders me when people talk about how Pit Bulls are super mean and are bred that way and (fill in the blank with whatever B.S. you want here).
It’s fairly simple. Just as with Police dogs, attack trained dogs, hunting dogs, if people can not handle them they do not serve their purpose. Why is it okay for a Police dog to bite their handler? They do it, a lot.
There are “methods” for dealing with such dogs. However, if I had a Police dog and it bit me I would probably want a more stable partner.
In any case, the informed dog trainer, blogger, goes on to say how Cattle dogs were bred to herd and Retrievers retrieve. As if that’s all they do or are good for. Dogs adapt to different roles. Hence the reason we love them so much.
Yes, Pit Bulls, aka American Pit Bull Terriers are bred for fighting. They are also Police drug dogs, bomb dogs, therapy dogs, service dogs, Search and Rescue dogs, and they serve our community everyday.
As for the dog trainer, I am a professional dog trainer and I look forward to hearing from Pit Bull owners wanting my services. Keep your cattle dogs, labs, and Goldens. Give me a good Pit Bull Terrier any day.

If you do post be nice. Be a good neighbor. I am not posting this so everyone can go flame thrower on this blogger. Rather, I want to share ignorance with people. This person is obviously ignorant and I wouldn’t give $1 for his training services. Any dog trainer that excludes a breed based on stupidity is a disgrace to my profession.
