Pit Bulls for Sale – Big Heads! Short Legs! 100+lbs!

I recently searched for that headline in Google.com and I came up with a variety of ads and web sites selling blue Pit Bulls and other colors as well.
Does anyone else see a problem here?
I have been asked, Jason what do you think will come of our breed in 10 years? My answer is simple. Unless the registries take a stance against these breeders and people who know what a real Pit Bull is and what a real Pit Bull should look like start speaking out our breed is in serious trouble.
Personally I think these “big heads! Short legs! 100+ lbs! Monsters!” breeders are being supported by the registries. They want those litter registrations and they want that money.
The UKC’s standard for height and weight states:
“The American Pit Bull Terrier must be both powerful and agile so actual weight and height are less important than the correct proportion of weight to height. Desirable weight for a mature male in good condition is between 35 and 60 pounds. Desirable weight for a mature female in good condition is between 30 and 50 pounds. Dogs over these weights are not to be penalized unless they are disproportionately massive or rangy.”
That standard is for showing the dogs. That does not mean they can not be registered etc… Those dogs not fitting the standard are still allowed entry into the registry.
Why?
I think the UKC’s standard needs to be changed and that will only happen if you and I start complaining and writing and more importantly stop giving them support and money. The same goes for the ADBA. Both standards are loose and fragile. Afraid they might upset the income by stopping irresponsible breeding practices is to much for them to think of right now.
The UKC standard should read:
“The American Pit Bull Terrier must be both powerful and agile so actual weight and height are just as important as correct proportion of weight to height. Mandatory weight for a mature male in good condition is between 35 and 65 pounds. Mandatory weight for a mature female in good condition is between 30 and 50 pounds. Dogs over these weights will not be registered or allowed entry into this organization.”
The changes I made are in bold.
Wouldn’t that be something! A registry with the guts to say, no, your dog does not fit the ideal standard (that has existed for over 100 years) so you can’t register your dog nor can you register any dog that dog sires or gives birth too.
Wow!
Wouldn’t it be something if the registry that supposedly have the breeds best interest in mind would stop registering 90 lbs dogs, 80 lbs dogs, 100 lbs dogs, and yes even 70 lbs dogs.
A medium dog is not supposed to be 70-80-90-110lbs!
A medium dog is supposed to be well, medium. So how can height and weight not be important if the standard says, “The American Pit Bull Terrier comes in all colors and color patterns. This breed combines strength and athleticism with grace and agility and should never appear bulky or muscle-bound or fine-boned and rangy.“
So a 100lbs dog doesn’t appear bulky or muscle bound? That’s interesting.
Things have to change. We have to speak up and get the registries to listen and make changes to the breeds standards and stop allowing this obvious cross bred, overbred, mixed breed freaks in the mix.
A freak is a dog that is overweight, has a large head, squat body, or as a person said one time they are kegs with legs. Dogs that do not fit the written standard should not be allowed to registered.
Maybe I’m radical here. Maybe not. Maybe if these ads with “Big Heads, Short legs! UKC registered!” stopped the demand for these dogs would stop as well. The UKC registered part is the most concerning part for me. I know of dozens of dogs that are both ADBA and UKC registered that are so far off the standard you could literally call them a different breed.
My question to the UKC and ADBA is, Are profits so important that you forget why your companies were started in the first place? To protect and better the American Pit Bull Terriers image.
Sorry but allowing dogs that are completely the opposite of your standards to compete and be registered does not have the breeds best interest at heart.
It’s time for a change folks. Write to the ADBA and UKC today and express your concern and your opinion about the standards and these over sized, freaks of nature, cartoon character Pit Bull wanna be’s.
That is the only way things will start to change.

this has absolutely nothing to do with the article, but what do you think of the breed specific sterilization law? it is obviously targeting bull breeds! i hate it! i just want a second opinion.
Most of the mandatory spay/neuter laws do target Pit Bull Terriers or pit bull type dogs. It is a softer way to install anti-pit bull laws. I highly encourage every Pit Bull owner to speak against these mandatory spay/neuter laws. We have enough freaking laws as it is.
