Caution to Pit Bull Owners – Authorities Hit New Low
Okay, I have seen it all now. I was contacted by a visitor
to PitBullLovers.com about a situation that I’ve heard
about but have never personally known to happen.
That is until now…
If you have been around the breed for more than a week
you know that the Human Society and other agencies
have these lists. They are called, “Signs of dog fighting”
and how to report these signs to your local Animal
Control agencies.
If you don’t know the signs they refer to here they
are: (Note how absurd they are!)
Signs of serious dog fighting include:
1. Ownership of several adult dogs and/or puppies that
are confined by thick chains with or without weights on
their collars.
2. Tires or other items suspended from trees to provide
jaw strengthening activities. (Jason’s note: these
are often referred to as spring poles)
3. A “cat mill” which confines a cat, rabbit or other
small animal and encourages the dog to ` chase it may be
present. As a reward for its hard, work, the dog will be
permitted to capture and kill the confined animal.
(Jason’s note: These are also called Jenny Mills)
4. People of all ages coming and going in groups from a
residence or other site, some with dogs.
(Jason’s Note: Friends with dogs)
Now maybe it’s just me but wouldn’t walking your dog
be exercise? Wouldn’t a Jenny mill (without the live
animal of course) be a great way to exercise your dog
in a short amount of time?
Well the email I received today was out of New York. The
person’s dog was taken because they set up a spring pole.
The Animal Control took the dog based on animal cruelty
and here is the big one, Dog Fighting charges.
Folks the tyranny is reaching a new high. People think
we are paranoid. That our claims that our dogs are
being targeted for extinction are false or overboard.
Well when you can have your dog taken away based on
a popular form of exercise I don’t call that paranoid
I call that tyranny. I call that ridiculous.
The burden of proof is no longer on the agencies. It
is placed on the dog owner. The “innoncent until
proven guilty” standard does not apply here. They
prove you guilty and then make you fight to show
your innoncence.
By the time it is all said and done your dog has
been taken, put into a high stress area, poked
and proded, for what? A person’s desire to allow
the dog to have fun using their deeply ingrained
instinct to grab and hold onto things.
I’m sorry but this is pathetic.
Personally I am outraged at this. Even if the person
who emailed me was out of line the point of the matter
is clear. If you have a Pit Bull you are a target
of tyranny. Regardless of lifestyle and moral standards.
Our dogs are on the hit list folks.
What is even more alarming is Pro-pit bull sites
are using these same “signs of dog fighting!”
Unreal. Completely unreal.
I leave you today with a thought…
Every time you step outside with your dog. Every time
someone sees your dog. You are setting an example.
Are you setting the right one?
Best Regards,
