Pit Bull Owners…I have a question for you…

September 30th, 2008

What are you doing to help stop breed specific laws and increase the public image of Pit Bulls?

I’m going to share with you one of the easiest way’s to help get a positive image out there for Pit Bulls. But you have to do three things before I’m going to tell you…

1. Stop acting like you can’t help. You can.
2. Stand up and stop laying down like a prostitute when people criminalize you and your dog.
3. Get active and start doing something.

And that leads me to that little tip…

Start your own blog. Blogs are becoming the most turned to information source online. When you look up things a lot of the time you will find blogs in the top positions. Blogging is easy and it will help get the positive word out about our dogs.

There are many blogs that are started by everyday Pit Bull owners and they simply talk about their dogs, their lives, and offer up good stories about their lives with their dogs.

PETA, the HSUS, the ASPCA, and other “radical” organizations are media juggernauts. They storm over pretty much anyone in their way. Blogs, more to the point, hundreds of thousands of them, about Pit Bulls that show a positive image will not only put more positive images in front of the public but it will help stop the flow of hyped up, fear induced, media that these organizations love to feed the public.

A friend of mine, who is at the forefront of fighting anti-pit bull laws along with anti-dog laws in general, and who is an outstanding blogger as set up a cool e-learning course for dog owners to learn more about blogging.

There is a video of a Pit Bull doing some cool tricks like putting their toys away, turning lights on, rolling over, push-ups, and getting a purse. It’s on the right hand side of the page when you get to the site.

You can check it out at Blogging For Dogs.

You may think this sounds really simple, and, it really is. Blogging is to the web as rain is to growing plants. Bloggers are helping grow the information network online and soon, it is my prediction the predominant source of information will be from individual users (like you and me) blogging about their lives and information.

I recommend you check out Blogging For Dogs and get some more information about the e-learning course offered there for individual owners like us. It’s something that can help these dogs (your dog as well) and it’s not that hard or expensive to start a blog.

The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide – Why You Need it…

September 26th, 2008

One the most frequently asked questions I receive is, “How do I stop/fight/oppose anti-pit bull laws?” Another variation of that is, “My city is considering BSL, what do I do!?”

I am happy to be able to answer that question with a single answer… You get your hands on B. Haywood’s The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide and you dig into it immediately.

What is The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide?

The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide is just that, a survival guide for Pit Bull owner’s in the fight against BSL and anti-pit bull laws. The first thing I did when I started reading it was scan down to “How to oppose BSL, The Proactive Approach” and I loved the ideas and strategies. Why? Because they are not “reactive” like most BSL lists or whatever you are looking for. These are real world, practical, effective strategies you can use immediately.

Many Pit Bull owner’s think fighting BSL is impossible. I’m here to tell you, it’s not. One of the most important things you can have are allies. In the survival guide there is a list of who opposes BSL and who supports it. Knowing that information clears the path immediately because now you know who to support and who to avoid supporting.

B. Haywood offers a step-by-oh-so-simple-step appraoch to building a proactive approach to insuring BSL does not take hold in your area. When I say step-by-oh-so-simple-step I mean it is clearly laid out. 1-2-3-4-5, so and so forth.

What if you are living in an area that already has enacted some form of anti-pit bull law. Don’t worry you can stop holding your breath, you’re covered.

You will find the “How to Build a Defensive Strategy” section in the guide not only invaluable but liberating. I couldn’t believe how good it felt to know I had a weapon in the fight against places like Maysville, Ky (about 80 miles from my town) who recently enacted a Pit Bull ban in city limits.

I also feel outstanding because I know Pit Bull owners in that area that can really use the information The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide.

Once again it is laid out in a step-by-super-simple-it-is-hard-to-mess-up-step fashion. I love that because I’m not the best at following directions.
Why do you need this resource? Simple. It is packed to the rim with years worth of real world research and active strategies to fight anti-pit bull laws.

On page 62 you will start to learn who’s behind anti-pit bull laws, their stances, and why you need to (A) remove all support from them and (B) start speaking out against these “humane” organizations.

If you are worried about keeping your dog, if you are even remotely troubled by the fact that thousands of innocent dogs are being killed or removed from their loving homes and Pit Bull owners are being forced to uproot their families and move to other locations for no other reason than they have a Pit Bull then you should get your copy of The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide like yesterday.

For more information about The Pit Bull Owner’s Survival Guide click here.

There you will be able to read more about the author and the book.

Here’s to stopping BSL forever!

Pit Bull Owners Submit to Defeat…

September 26th, 2008

Everyday I receive an email or two that go something like this…

“I understand what you are saying about BSL Jason but you know, I would rather have to register my dog in a database and spay/neuter my dog and keep them in a muzzle while in public than to have them totally banned. I mean, if that’s what it takes to keep my dog, then I’ll do it.”

When I read emails like these I get a sick feeling in my stomach. In our country  we have the right to say, “uh, no, I don’t think so.” We have the right to take a stand against issues that get in the way of our pursuit of happiness and our right to own property and many more rights that anti-pit bull/dog laws try to take away.

Why anyone would say, “If I have to muzzle my dog while out in public to keep them then I will do it!” is beyond me.

This defeated attitude sickens me. This attitude that people are okay with having to alter their animals by force, muzzle their dogs, put them on short 2-3 foot leashes, kennel them while outside, is disgusting.

If you are okay with someone saying, “We know what’s best for you.” Then you need to move to China or some other country that forces laws down people’s throats for no reason at all. I know what is best for me. I am a responsible, law abiding, adult. I know what is best for my animals as well. For some legislator to try and step in and play Super Nanny is ridiculous.

It is not okay to say, “I’ll will do it if it ,means I can keep my dog.” Sure, you keep your dog, but at what cost? It is not healthy for your dog, it is not healthy for you, and it certainly doesn’t help anything because those irresponsible people that are already not abiding by the current laws will not abide by these new ones and it will not stop a thing.

Laying down and letting people walk on you is never okay. Be it the government or a local bully. It is not okay to give up, quit, and accept defeat when it is your rights that are being stepped on.

Our actions affect everyone. If I lay down and say, “Well I guess muzzling is better than not having my dog” that opens the door for other cities and states to trample on the rights of their citizens.

We are in a fight. Whether you want to believe it or not, it’s true. Look around. Search for “Pit Bulls” on the web and see what pops up. Check out the HSUS web site, go to PETA’s site, hang out for more than a moment and you will start to see this anti-pitbull/dog attitude all over their sites.

You will see that these organizations are writing thousands of press releases about Pit Bulls and how to stop Dog fighting etc… Dog fighting is their gateway into the world of Pit Bulls. They say, “We want to stop dog fighting!” But that is not all they want to stop. They want to stop Pit Bull ownership. For over 20 years the HSUS as slowly built up the idea that PIt Bull owners are criminals and drug dealers, thugs and lower income people. They have smeared the names of hundreds of Pit Bull owners based on nothing more than an idea.

If you really think that submitting, letting them tell you that muzzling or mandatory spay/neuter is so much better than a total ban, then you need to wake up. Like right now.

DNA Testing for Dogs is a Crazy Idea

September 26th, 2008

Recently I was talking to a friend of mine about DNA testing and how cities are drafting laws that would require DNA testing of your dog in order for you to keep it or not. In short, this is insane. Why? Because DNA testing is not exact and the HSUS and other organzations lie about how accurate they are. The only thing DNA testing can say for sure is, yes, the DNA came from your dog.

I had a dog training client DNA test his dog and the results came back 50% Rottweiler and some sort of retriever. The dog looked a lot like a Pit Bull to me and to him. He asked for a second test but I do not know how that turned out. Regardless he was no closer to finding out if his shelter dog was a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier or simply a mutt than before the test.

DNA is also sneaky in the fact that almost always they ask you to sign a waiver that gives the ownership of the DNA to the testing company. Now take a moment and really think about the ramifications of that.

They could, sell your dog’s DNA to a medical research company. They could, clone your dog. They could, patent a specific sequence and your dog would no longer be your dog because they now own it’s DNA. Sounds crazy right? It does but it can happen.

Once the DNA is in the ownership of the company then who’s to say what they will do with it? Me, I would not sign over the rights to my dog’s DNA for any reason at all. As a side note, they do this when they test kids for parentage etc… Think about that, someone owning a child’s DNA sequence. Same ramifications apply here too. Well, it’s not likely they would clone your kid because that is illegal, however, selling the DNA to research companies and other places is possible.

DNA testing is also a way for cities to ban your dog as well. They will use these results to prove your dog is XYZ percent Pit Bull and then you are in a world of trouble. The point here is, DNA is not that accurate as to determine exact breed.

DNA testing opens up a lot of crazy doors.
