The Pit Bull Accident – I won’t lie, I was scared…

March 30th, 2005

…I would like to tell you about something that happened two days ago that nearly stopped my heart dead in it’s tracks.

Angel and Honey were being their nutty little selves and while I was trying to get dressed to go out my girlfriend (who is somewhat fearful of all dogs) was waiting on me.

Angel and Honey, like the attention blackholes they are were trying to suck her into paying attention to them and only them when it happened.

I was pulling my shirt over my head when from behind me I heard a yelp.

IMPORTANT NOTE: My dogs have yelped only twice their entire lives. That’s one yelp per dog for over 4 years now.

I immediately turned around to see, ready for this?

A coat hanger sticking in Angels eye!

I freaked out. I mean lost it.

As I screamed “oh god! Oh god!” and leaped what felt like 10 feet to remove the hanger from her eye she backed up and kind of shook her head and the coat hanger (with the shirt that was on it) fell to the floor.

She then turned and ran into the TV room with me right on her tail.

First things first:

1. The hanger did not stick her in the eye ball.

2. She was more frightened by my reaction than hurt from the hanger.

3. There is no sign of eye damage.

4. My heart didn’t stop beating 7,000 miles an hour until the next day.

Lesson:

The reason she got the hanger in her eye was someone had left a shirt on a stool with the coat hanger in it.

This freak accident is just a reminder that while you may think it’s okay, crazy things happen and Angel is very lucky to have her eye intact and undamaged.

So next time you put something that is on your dogs level, think about it for a second before you do.

While I have no doubt this was a one in ten million accident it happened. If you were to have told me it could have I would have probably said you were silly.

It could have been so much work but thankfully my girl came away uninjured. :o)

One more reason I love the Pit Bull so much. They rock!

Wishing you and yours a beautiful safe spring…

Best Regards,
Jason, Angel and Honey

Pit Bull Tid Bits of the Week

March 22nd, 2005

As an avid Internet nerd, self-employed Internet business owner and writer I’m always interested in reading about the breed. So I fired up Google.com and started searching for Pit Bull information.

I discovered an interesting trend that is occurring and to be honest, I’m not sure how to react to it.

The trend: People cashing in on the popularity of the Pit Bull.

My reaction is two fold. On one hand I’m thankful more people are taking an interest in the breed.

On the other, I’m a bit ticked off their interest goes no further than finding a way to profit from them.

Case in point, the ever expanding rash of ebooks popping up about the Pit Bull.

I can name two that have recently been attempted one is in the works and the other well, it was around for a bit but I can’t seem to find it anymore. Meaning either A) the guy found out it wasn’t as profitable as he thought or B) he is changing directions.

On another interesting note I was having dinner with my girlfriend (who has a dog phobia by the way) and she asked me, “Why do you put so much time into your website?”

My answer: Because I love the breed and want to help more people discover how to become responsible owners with well behaved dogs to show off to their friends, family and the general public.

Extremely simple really. I was once on the other end of the stick. People sneering at me as I walked my two girls down the street doing the best I could to control them.

It was tiring taking them both out for walks and frankly I was losing my patience, temper, and mind in the process.

After a lot of work and effort they walk very well together. I have never had a fight between them. They are healthy and happy dogs that enjoy a very easy existence on this earth.

Between my folks giving them sack fulls of treats and toys to my girlfriend (who once again is terrified of dogs. Even small ones) walking Honey down the street in a controlled manner.

Nothing makes me happier than to see my dogs having a great time and my girlfriend overcoming her fear of dogs by walking the big bad nasty Pit Bull man-eater down the street and feeling proud of herself for being able to do so without fear.

Today I’m venting on the issue of people cashing in on the popularity of breed for one reason, profit.

More books about the aspects of owning the Pit Bull are more than welcome and I do not thumb my nose up at the authors of these books.

I do however think the motive behind them is a bit selfish and in would do the authors good to get into the trenches and spend time with the owners, the dogs, and the issues we face on a daily basis before trying to help us deal with these problems.

Which leads me to one of my pet peeves…

…dogs are dogs. They behave in a very similar fashion. What works to stop a Chow pup from crapping in the house will usually work for the Pit Bull.

Though the Pit Bull is much smarter than the Chow. ;o)

Another message I’d like to get out there is that PitBullLovers.com was created for one reason…

…to share the outstanding dogs we call Pit Bulls with others around the world and give them the information they need to live a long, happy, life with their Pit Bull(s) for free.

My way of saying thank you for your support of the Pit Bull Lovers website and the breed.

On that note, back to work.

Have a great day!
