Pit Bull Rescue – A Breed Apart
Over the past year or so Animal Planet has featured, “Pit Bulls and Parolees” in their line up bringing to light the work of Villalobos Pit Bull Rescue in California.
Villalobos as been around the block a few times and if you’ve been involved with Pit Bull Terriers for more than a day you probably have heard of the rescue.
While Villalobos is in the spot light every single day thousands of everyday people sacrifice their time, money, and emotions to help rescue Pit Bull Terriers.
Seems like a day doesn’t end without someone, somewhere, emailing me a picture and a bio and a “please help [insert name here]” find a forever home. My heart cracks with each email I get knowing that my resources are limited and the extent of my help is also limited.
Pit Bull rescue is close to my heart as all but one of my dogs has come from rescue/shelter/the street. I have seen more than my fair share of solid Pit Bull Terriers put down because homes, good homes that is, are few and far between.
One question that I get a lot is where can I buy a puppy? My answer is simple. Unless you are looking for a highly specific working dog rescue is where you can buy a puppy. Puppies are flowing from rescue organizations like water over Niagara Falls.
I just want to thank those involved in the endless effort to save Pit Bull lives (all dogs really) for their work. I admire the steadfastness you demonstrate and your dedication to that work.
I’ll leave you with this, people ask me, “Jason, how can I get involved in Pit Bull rescue?” Again my answer is simple.
Visit a Pit Bull rescue website and give them $5-$10. Then find some local (or close to local) rescues and see if you can volunteer.
All I ask is that you don’t shut your eyes to the situation. It is there plain as day. Look at it, absorb it, and feel it.
Until Next Time,

Yep, and ALWAYS ignore the ignorant backyard breeders, who sometimes can’t even spell the word “papers”.
I have been in love with pit bulls since watching Pitbull and Parolees and Pit boss. I rescued a pit puppy from Chicago Bully Bread in november. She is the best dog ever. I am very proud to show her off to prove the breed is not what everyone thinks it is.
Though I am not normally a dog person, any breed (!), I have become obsessed with “Pit Bulls and Parolees”. I cannot believe how cruel people can be when they take these puppies and train them to be killers. Then the world thinks these dogs are born that way? Really? Are convicts born as convicts, or drug addicts born as drug addicts? Narrow mindedness is alive and not-so-well I guess. I really think that TV program is making a difference though. Maybe not with the A-holes who do this to these poor animals, but at least to the dog adoption community as a whole. At least I hope so. Unfortunately, there will always be the ignorant jerks taking advantage of these poor dogs and laws should be much stiffer on them. I have friends and relatives who have adopted pitbulls and they are proving to be extremely intelligent, loving pets. I wish the very best of luck to Tia, her daughters, to Jason and to everybody helping these dogs lead loving lives with their forever families.
It’s really nice post for pit bull lovers ,Pit Bull rescue is close to my heart as all but one of my dogs has come from rescue the street. I have seen more than my fair share of solid Pit Bull Terriers put down because homes, good homes that is, are few .
It kills me how many ignorant people are out there. The media shaped such a wrong and unfair image of this beautiful breed. People don´t understand that it´s never the dog to blame when something bad happens, but the uneducated owners who treat their animals wrong… I really hope this will change one day. We love Pitbulls!
